What is it with some people?!??!?!

As some of you may/ may not know I have handed in my notice at work to go on a 6 month tour of Thailand and neighbouring countries.

Everything is booked we (me and the GF) fly out on the 15th of October.

But now her parent are REALLY kicking up a stty stink. Saying things to the GF like "You really shouldnt be giving up your job, its a fantastic job and you have really good opportunities" to which she would respond "But its not something I want to be doing and I am unhappy!"

GRRR what is it with these people?!??! Most parents would be happy their child is going out, seeing the world and enjoying life! BUT nooooo!

fking s!!!

The most infuriating thing is all her parents care about is money and being successful and i have never had that mind set. I dont care what i am doing as long as I am happy

Correction: You and the GF have to both be happy! Incidentally, I'd say go for it if thats what you want to do. I've never done anything like that, partly because of cost, and partly because I've never wanted to - I did loads of travelling as a kid and never felt any urge to do it again. I do wonder if in 10 years time when I'm 40 I might change my mind though and end up having the best midlife crisis ever!

They're just worried and understandably nervous. There daughter is taking off to the other side of the world for 6 months. My folks were exactly the same when I did the same thing.

But you are still taking a Sarnie to a buffet!

Agreed, thank you for the correction.

My GF is very happy to "pack up and go" so to speak but its just her parents putting the brakes on things (well trying any way).

ah well like GTIR says we are off soon so I'll just keep my head down smile

scratchchin Mmm... and I wonder with that attitude why her parents are less than enamoured with the situation.

They want their daughter to be successful, by their standards admittedly, and you want her to give up a decent job to go bumming around the world for 6 months with you.

I'm guessing, and it's only a guess, that you don't get on with her folks too well? biggrin

Ah that is where you are incorrect smile

Her parents seem to like me very much and I do them. They have seen that i have stuck with her through all the VERY st times this year (trust me they were st) and we have made it through stronger than ever and I think they recognise that.

I think it may be worth saying that I am 23 and she is 21 too.

At the end of the day she is young and so am I and we can always find a job when we get back regardless of what it is. She is not happy with her place in this world and neither am I so 6 months away to get away from things and to clear our minds to decide what we want to do in life seems like a great idea to me smile

Christ man, you're 21/23. Go for it! Do it now whilst you have no ties e.g. mortgages and kids etc.
