A long way away, but I am under orders to get something special planned.

We have just taken on a flat in Lowndes Square, SW1 and I was thinking of going to one of the Embankment restaurants (Yes, that one does have space!).

Have been told nothing too drunken and raucous as the OH is expecting. She would like to see the fireworks and the crowds. (Personally, I have no idea why, but there we go)

So other ideas other than OXO Tower appreciated - my version would not meet the raucous or drunken requirements.

Just the two of you or a group?

If just the two of you, I'd get a luxury picnic hamper etc and go to the top of Parliament Hill. Much better view of the fireworks around London.

Best New Year I've had so far was on the top of a mountain with good friends and a few bottles of champagne. Of course, it helped that the weather was good (dry and cold).

At the moment just two. Although I suspect that a small group will evolve, I'll end up fed up and have my normal New Years Eve when in the UK!

Afraid work commitments rule out being away from London over New Year for the OH - otherwise I'd be away.

I can't abide the idea of a Thames Cruise, have the option of a table at the Oxo, just whether anyone has a better (food) recommendation that will still afford a decent view.

Some of the floating restaurant/function room venues along the thames run quite formal black tie events, dinner etc. I went to one on the HMS president a couple of years ago, it did degenerate into a bit of a drunken affair later in the evening though.
