anybody good at Maths?

Im currently filling in a entrance test for my university course and am a bit stuck with a order of calculations question, ive come up with the answer 2, i would appreciate someone telling me whether this is correct or not, but please dont tell me the actual answer as that would be cheating!

the question goes like this,

Using the rules of order of calculations, determine:-

6 x 4 div (7 - 4) - 3 (11 - 9)

ps 'div' means divide! couldnt find the button!

Microsoft Excel thinks it 2 aswell! cheaty cheat cheat,

It does however change the formular slightly

=6*4/(7-4)-3*(11-9)

adding the extra multiplication after the -3, but Im guessing that is implied anyway.

It is 2.

Work out the brackets first : 6*4/3 - 3*2
then do the multiplication and division : 8 - 6
then the addition and subtraction : 2

The question is purely to find out if you understand what order you should do things in. Any scientist worth the name would ensure that enough brackets were used to make the statement completely unambiguous.

1) 7-4 = 3
2) 11-9 = 2
3) 6x4/3 = 8
4) 3x2 = 6
5) 8-6 = 2

BODMAS = Brackets Orders Divide Multiply Addition Subtraction

Where Orders = to the power of / root of

I got two anwsers depending on how it was laid out.

if all the stuff in brackets was under the 6 * 4 i got -8

if only the 7-4 was under the 6*4 then i got 2

Do the sum in this order and you get the right answer.

I agree, it used to be taught at GCSE level.
