If so, how do you balance your time with them against your day-job ?

When you went for selection did you take a sabatical?

Yes im in the TA, Although nothing on the RMR website suggests the inital selection is anything more than a weekend or two.

Ref: Afgan, guys I know from my unit have done 4-6 months ...

Wonder how the boss likes a 6 month holiday. Is it unpaid leave, then?

I would have thought it was more than that as there is the potential to server alongside regular marines who will have completed the full Commando selection.

I'll give the London RMR office a call.

Isn't the regular RM selection just a weekend too? The actual Commando training lasts several months either at CTCRM or a part time basis in the RMR. Wikipedia has a lot of detail on the RMR page. There's also a forum on the RN site for potential Royal Marines if you haven't seen it yet.

Was with 4 Para training but never passed out, nearly went RMR and wish I had....

RMR, a normal PRMC same as regular RM is a 2 full day thing. 3 miler, Gym test 1, Bottom field (hell!), Gym test 2. All in all it was tough but doable if you train well for it. The actual training once you start is quite commitment, but well worth it imo.

Remember its not just the time you're with them, it's the training you have to do in your own time.

Search for the MFAT forum, its pretty helpfull.

Good luck.

I was in the TA.

You are normally expected to dedicated 2 solid weeks for 'annual camp' where you often go on exercise/do training.

Also expected to do a fair few weekends away. This is really all 'optional' but kind of expected, i.e. the other chaps will not like you turning up 'when you feel like it'

Quite often larger employers have a HR policy where they give TA members 2 weeks extra leave for the purpose of using it for the 2 week camp
