Salesmen knocking on your door.....
Discussion
Right this is seriously starting to annoy the hell out of me, who exactly do these guys think they are and how do you deal with them?
Recently had a guy knock on my door from some power company, first thing out of his mouth was "I can cut your electrcity bill in half". Straight away I'm thinking how the fook can you do that, you have no idea who I am with, what I am paying or how much I actually use. I let him carry on for a few mintues before telling him that I wasn't interested, he then asks why, why am I not interested in saving money?? I proceeded to tell him that I would never ever sign up to anything based upon someone knocking on my door, I would search around on the internet and make some phone calls myself before making a decision. He then goes on, "so you wouldn't sign up to something based upon a knock at the door, what if a postman brought you a package that you had to sign for, would you sign for it", well if I was expecting something then yes I would, "well then that could be a bomb and you've just signed for it at your door"!!!
At this point I'd had enough so I told him I wasn't interested to which he muttered something under his breath. As a parting goodbye I just replied with "listen a***hole, I didn't ask you to knock on my door now f
k off otherwise I'll let the dog out.............................read "dog" as 1 year old cat that couldn't scare a bloody thing!
Other example was the Sky man. He couldnt understand why I didn't want sky, it was if sky was the best thing ever and that ever single person in the world had to have it, and better still they had to buy it off him!
What is it with these people, I didn't ask you to knock on my door so don't take offence if I don't want to buy whatever it is you are selling!
So, any funny stories, good ways of dealing with said people or good responses to fire back at them...........

I never let them get the first word out , as soon as I see them brandishing their clipboard and company logo t-shirt / jacket I just say " Not interested " and shut the door, unless I suspect them to be Jehovas witness' where i reply , " I don't have time to talk right now, I'm off to the hospital for a blood transfusion"
I'm sick of the power companies sending round their commission based goons. It's always the same line about how some people around here have been left on old expensive tarrifs and we're just here to help make sure you're not one of them. They lie every time to "are you selling something then?". Apparently nearly all power companies provide a charity service out of the kindness of their heart.
One t
tty electrictiy company salesman asked my wife if we wanted further information on their packages. So she signed something saying yes. Next thing we know we had a letter welcoming us to our new power company.
Obviously she should have read what she signed, but in her defence, she'd just given birth to our first born a week earlier, and thought signing for an info pack would be the quickest and most polite way of getting rid of him sharpish. Even though it was probably cheaper we cancelled on principal.

They're only doing their job after all.

Is it because these people are beneath you?
I simply dont understand how any adult can get wound up over cold calls ....if its on the phone just say "no thanks" and hang up. If its at the door just say "no thanks" and shut the door. Now, if anyone comes on here saying the caller phoned back or stuck their foot in the door...fine...moan all you like - but they wont, because they are doing a job and expect 99% of people to say no - they are quite ready to move onto the next one.
The other day there was a crazy poster on here who spent ages on the phone to got their address, google them for fax number and faxed them black paper....WTF! That will have a 0.00000000000000001% effect on their day (at thats prop too high an estimate!)
If you are one of these loons just get TPS, MPS and a "i dont buy at this door" sticker.....if you have to offer more than 3 "no thanks" during the year i'd be amazed after that.

Just shut the door on them.
Be polite. "No thanks mate, I'm not interested." and then shut the door. They're only doing their job after all.
The majority of them are pushy, arrogant t
ts who won't actually listen. And I'm pretty sure that isn't necessary to 'just do their job'. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
