It's a scam - My poor french translation here:

I'm interested in your car
I'm in England on the 20th August
Not sure, something about an R500
Not sure of this either
Why are you selling it
Not sure
Is the steering on the right
Thanks for receiving/reading my mail as I don't speak English
I have a friend who can speak English if you want to carry on the sale
What's your best price? Not sure of the second bit.

My french is poor, but it's a clear scam.

I assume you're selling a Caterham then....

ETA - Damn - too slow - I translated this in my head from having not spoken any proper French for about 2 years....

You of all people shouldn't be jumping to conclusions on translations hehe

For what it's worth, I think he's saying "I'm going to Caterham (company) but I don't know if I will buy one from them"

Can't get all of it (At least, not without the context of what's going on) but:

Je suis intteressé par votre voiture.
Je suis en anglettere le 20 Aout.

I am interested in buying your car and will be in England on the 20th August.

Pourquoi tu la vends?

Why are you selling it?

Merci de me contacter par mail je ne parle pas anglais.
S'il le faut j'ai un ami qui parle bien anglais et pourras faire la transaction.

Thanks (in advance?) for contacting me/replying to me, I do not speak English. However I have a friend who does speak English and will be helping with the transaction.

Insert swear word here smile

ETA - It might not be a scam, but it seems a little iffy to me...

Pretty much asking about outstanding finanace on the car (if there is any)

> Comment faire pour conclure cette vente?ous n'avez pas de traduction automatiques? How would you conclude the sale? Do you not have any form of automatic transaction.

Asking about online payment (suspect an escrow service will appear soon)

  • I am interested in your car.
  • I'm in England on 20th Aug
  • I'd like to test drive an R500
  • I didn't know it was on sale until now
  • Why are you selling it?
  • Can the lease be transferred
  • Is it right-hand drive?
  • Please contact me by mail, I don't speak English
  • If needed I have a friend who speaks English who can do the transaction.
  • How can we make this transaction? I don't have a translation machine.
Not necessarily a scam, but probably not worth the hassle.

I don't think it's a scam. It's a right PITA to do business, though.

Hello.

I am interested by your car.
I am in the UK on the 20th of August.
I want to go to Caterham to try the R500
I didn't know there were any for sale second hand.
Why are you selling it?
Could we get the finance transferred?
Is it right hand drive?
Please contact me via email, as I don't speak English.
If necessary, I have a friend who speaks good English and can translate.
How would you want to close the sale?
Do you have an automatic translator?

Regards

Martin
Their French wasn't perfect, but it wasn't really scam level bad either. It didn't really strike me as obviously being a scam, but caution is always going to be wise!

If you want anything else translating either to send him or with what you get back, just give me a shout. I might have to bale out if it gets too technical though! When I lived in France, I was too young to drive, so never learnt the car part names!

I wonder what the French words are for -

automobile
garage
carburettor
ignition
accident

Pretty much ok in the translation but I think the last sentance is asking about traction aids not transaction!

Also asking for you to come back by email as he doesn't speak english (which is understandable) and he can get it translated (I do this in reverse in France as speaking on the phone is the hardest of all the parts of the language no matter how fluent you are)!!

It's not asking about traction or transaction. It is asking about translation.

It smells of scam. The French is poor, so I'd guess it's a Nigerian trying out his French.
