When you are falling asleep, kind of inbetween being awake and being asleep, do you ever 'dream' you are falling, or in the case of last night tripping over a curb and jolt yourself awake???

This happens to me about 3-4 times a week, very strange.

Am I going to die? lol

Yup, I get this too, maybe once a month or so. Mis-treading a step, treading on a loose kerb stone, falling off my bike... all ending with me waking with a jolt and scared stless for half a second!

It happens as your conscious brain gradually relinquishes control of the motor functions, then a faint stimulus, such as a noise signals the semiconscious brain into trying to scramble itself into action again.

yeah, and if you say 'candyman' three times.... rolleyes

i have been stabbed, shot, run over, blown up, etc. in dreams and i'm still here. i have a recurring dream where i;m in the war and bayoneted, but i just lie there waiting until ze germans have gone and walk off.

i do the jolt thing, but never because i'm 'falling'.

I often jolt myself awake. Happened in class once, friend thought it was very funny. Scariest one was when I dreamt I was riding down a hill on my bike, went through an intersection and got t-boned by a bus. It was a very violent jolt that time.

Called a Myoclonic jerk.

The strange thing is how does your brain know to dream about an involuntary movement, or in your dopey state do you jump then instantly dream the fall....

I've herd that its a throw back from when we were primates and slept in trees - It is our mind testing our reactions to stop us falling out of them...
