I'm off to a fancy dress party next weekend which has a slightly dubious theme: Mamma Mia. This was widened to anything Abba themed, then anything Greek. So basically anything goes.

Any ideas?

So far I'm thinking an authentic Greco-Roman toga. Otherwise known as a bed sheet.

Hang on... I could have sworn I posted this in The Lounge. Am I going nuts or has PH thrown a spanner somewhere?

Ah well - TVR people! Lend me your ideas...

Stavros is indeed an option. On a related note, I suppose I could go as the fat dancing child off Britain's Got Talent.

I thought Abba were Swedish, not Greek?

Could you pull this off?

He's only asking about fancy dress. Surely that's a life choice?.... smile

Mamma Mia! = Italian not Greek. It basically means "The Virgin Mary!" (or "Mother Mary" to translate literally) and is used as one goes "Jesus Christ!" in English.

So dress up as the virgin mary and annoy any attending christians smile

Where did you get greek from?

Mamma Mia is set on a Greek island.

Someone told me.

The only problem with that is you'll need an added touch to make sure that people realise it's a Greek toga rather than a Roman one, which I think would be most people's default assumption. Do you maybe have an adolescent male whom you could strap to your crotch?

Sorry if I've missed something, but is this not the perfect opportunity to put on a flared white jumpsuit, platform shoes and a large beard?

If I could get a flared white jump suit together in time I possibly would! Instead the toga is looking like a possibility, except in place of the adolescent boy suggested above I think I'll (ahem) accesorise with a few cardboard lightning bolts to hurl at someone. Zeus did do that didn't he? I should have kept the beard though, I look a bit too Roman clean shaven... like Brian.

So did Jupiter, sorry. It's back to the adolescent boy again! hehe

Are you squiring a lady friend to said party?

If so, both go in jeans, lumberjack shirts and Doc Martens. -But give yourself false boobs.

Then announce yourselves as: 'the island of Lesbos'.
