Where to live for a job in Feltham

My gf has been offered a job in Feltham, Middlesex and I'm wondering if anyone can give any advice as to where to live, it must realistically be within a 20-30 minute commute. The only thing I know about Feltham is the Young Offenders Institute so I'm assuming it's not a nice place to live?

We're on a bit of a budget so keep that in mind, but any help is appreciated as we're a bit clueless!

I lived in Ashford for a year - perfectly nice sleepy town.

Working for IBM or Cisco?

Richmond / Twickenham / St Margarets or perhaps Shepperton/Weybridge

You could also try Isleworth, Osterley, and Chiswick (10-15 minutes if you take the train). Avoid Feltham & Hounslow. Havent seen much in Ashford to impress TBH.

As said on another thread, the crime rate in the immediate vicinity of that type of establishment is usually pretty low.

Maybe if we just put some gallows up in every high street they might have the same effect?

I used to commute into Feltham sometimes, living near Lightwater (m3 j3) and it took 30-40 mins depending on the traffic, so you could be looking further out than you think...

Hampton or Hampton Hill are very pleasant. Twickenham, Teddington are good too, and have a better train service.

Avoid Feltham, Hounslow, Hanworth, Whitton etc - whilst there are nice parts amongst them they do have more youth problems.

Laleham,Walton Shepperton are nice, Staines and Ashford are good, steer clear of Stanwell,Feltham,Bedfont, and Hounslow.

Added to what they said, avoid Isleworth: stinks of st.

I live in Sunbury, which isn't too bad. As stated above avoid Feltham, Hounslow etc. I don't even like driving through these places.

If you're on a budget, don't knock Southall.

Stay away from the council estates (easy to do) and pretty much everywhere else is cheap and safe.

It's also an interesting and vibrant place to live.

I live near Wokingham and commute into Osterley along the M3 which takes about 35-45 mins.

More details on time needed to get into work, time leaving and mode of transport would be helpful.

If I did 9-5 then it would take me about 2 hours to get to work but on 07:00-19:00 shift it takes 40 mins.

She needs to be there for 8:45 and would ideally commute by train. Car isn't out of the question but using the train would be preferable.

in which case almost anywhere.... Feltham is about half an hour from waterloo isn't it?

On the train then Ashford(I am biased) or Staines or Virginia Water (a bit more money).Lower Sunbury is nice but I think on the wrong railway line. Not Hounslow, Feltham or Bedfont.

I'd drive. Feltham station and the area around it is really quite unpleasant, and not somewhere I'd feel happy walking around, especially after dark.

Also don't forget that the train is used by visitors to the Young Offenders establishment, and is a major means of transport for the oiks in the areas around. I've taken it a couple of times (at commuter hours) and found it scary and intimidating.

Depends where in Isleworth, anywhere remotely near the Rugby Stadium can smell god awful but I live on the border of Isleworth and Osterly and very rarely smell anything.
