Well I popped the quezzie to Mrs f-f at V festival and she said "You'll do!!"
We want to do it in Ireland and with no fuss, i.e. bugger off, get married in secret and come back for a shin dig with close friends and family.

How will that work with banns etc?
In the meantime I'm well chuffed!

I've been married 5 weeks now, it is ace!

Banns: You both need to go and talk to the vicar in the parish where you (?each) live, just find the nearest Christian church (unless you already attend regularly)

The rules have changed recently (last year or so) and are more relaxed about getting married out of your parish.

There are still some rules though to stop people "church-shopping"

You vicar will be a nice man/woman, I guarantee it, have a chat smile

Nothing like it at all. I sincerely and wholeheartedly apologise for my lighthearted comment. If I've offended any delicate sensibilities I'll go out and commit hari-kari forthwith.

rolleyes <- I can do it too.

In a vain attempt at humour. No different to 99% of the st that's posted on here.

OP: Congratulations and apologies for derailing your thread.

All the best mate - hope it works out. thumbup

I can't understand all the doom-mongers. If you don't like being married, get out of it. Easy.

Thanks for the good wishes chaps! No worries about the doommongers...I know exactly what I'm doing, it was shown on the big screen at V festival after I texted it through!!

So if we want to get married in a small church inIreland does that work in a similar way to Gretna Green? Any web linky things to the process?
Cheers

With regard to banns.

If you're a regular church goer then it'll probably be fine.

However, I'm not -although Mrs Zep suddenly came over all christian and wanted a church wedding.

Banns were read and we had to attend 3 times. Inconveniently, this happened on a Sunday morning and I had to pretend to be 'christian' whilst nursing a hangover each time. At one point in the assembly/lecture thing everyone gets up and you have to shake hands/hug weirdos and say 'peace be with you'. It remains the worst part of my marriage.

Problem is we're in England and want to get married in Wexford. Any Irish types here know the script over there?

Are either or both of you Catholic or Irish? Or resident in Ireland? Are either of you Christian? What demonination? Or would you prefer a Church of Ireland protestant cermony? Or why not a civil cermony?
