How do DFS get away with it???

They have a "sale" for 365 days a year where they reduce their "normal" price by half.

Everyone knows that their "sale" price is, in fact, their standard price. How do they get away with this tactic? It happens more and more and car dealers have been doing it for years...surely its illegal in some way?

They'll have one store in their estate which sells at 'full price', thereby meeting the law's requirements. It'll be a tiny store, maybe even in the foyer of one of their offices, not geared up to do any business but which is sufficient to be legally recognised as a shop.

When I bought a bed, they said they had to show the correct price for 3 weeks of the year, then they could go back to the 'sale' price.

Not sure how true that is.

Item has to have been for sale at full price in one of their stores for x amount of time. But only one store. I suspect that somewhere, no-where near anything else, there is a lone DFS that has the full-price stock.

its backfired with them anyway, because no-one even bats and eyelid when there 'SALE NOW ON' slogan appears.

Used to live near the first Derbyshire Furniture Store was and there was a (no doubt bks) tale that they used to circumvent Sunday trading laws by selling carrots for £300 and throw in a free 3 piece suite of your choosing.

On a similar theme - I chanced to wander into a branch of Allied Carpets in the 3 minutes that they WEREN'T having a sale. Every carpet was about £60/m2!

How do they get away with it? In probably the same way that their boss,lord kirkham, got away with belting a motorist in a road rage incident! Mind you, he does own a xj220 though. Heard a story that one time it broke down, then his 911 broke down, and what did he get for a courtesy car from the garage???? A mondeo diesel! He wasnt happy at all!!

Whatever they charge the furniture really is awful. I've never seen sofas wear & look tatty so quickly.

Still, that's probably part of their business model - get the customers back in every 3-5 years to buy a replacement!
