Why don't we publically ridicule morons anymore?
Discussion
It seems alot of threads on PH are taken up with laughing at morons, particuarly in the lounge. But it doesn't happen in places that really affect our lives.
See the threads about Fife Councils view on Co2 causing respitory problems for example.
In that thread someone questioned "How do these people get air time?" about somebody who said they "wanted all Co2 removing from the atmosphere", which got me thinking that maybe the general dumbing down of society and the increasing stupidity of governance is not down to poor education, socialism, family breakdown etc etc but it may infact becasue we don't ridicule the terminally stupid anymore.
I bet the interviwer who heard this just listened and carried on when in reality he/she should have laughed the goon off the programme.
If you watch old news shows the journalists are highly educated and so are the guests and you know that if they had some of todays idiots on a 1950's BBC news broadcast the interviewer would pull apart their stupid statements and arguments and make them look like a right pleb. Today though we are expected to sit and listen nodding politely when these plankton-esque goons start spouting rubbish.
Why has this happened, has PC socialism made it so we can't call people thick and remove them from the decision making process? We are far too accomadating to fools, morons, gumps, plebs and thickos and so they think that they are right and should have positions of power.
Maybe just maybe if we all (and by all I mean people with at least average intelligence and education) started calling people on there stupidity and moronic ideas instead of nodding politely we could remove them from the decision making process, positions of power and all levels of government?
Oh by the way I'm expecting somebody to highlight all of my speeling mistakes and call me a 'thicko' but this is meant to be a semi-serious thought about lowering of standards in the media, government, the workplace and society.
Just a thought.

Um, in the 1950s we were told to go sit under a table in case of a nuclear attack - and AFAIK no one questioned it. In spite of the obvious dumbing down and pandering to the great unwashed in the media, journalism has come a long way in 50 years. Your 1950s BBC news broadcaster would be hard pressed to question someone representing authority even if they made complete and utter fools of themselves. They might have been a bit more condescending towards members of the general public, though - especially if they were of the wrong sex or from a different country.

Put it this way, if he had called Gordon Brown a 'Jocko moron whose eyes are all wonky', or maybe 'Long John Silver, the kilted stwit', or perhaps even 'Winky Mcfknut, the alcoholic sheep-shagger' then yes, I could see how some people might find that offensive.
"Or if he had put on an eye patch and sat there shouting 'jings! crivens! am such a wee eejit!'.
"Or if he had wandered around the stage with one eye shut, bumping into things while sticking his tongue inside his bottom lip and banging the backs of his hands together while screaming 'och aye the noo, I'm Gordon the spazzy', then yes, that is perhaps going a bit too far."

I remember a union leader in the 80s who wasn't going to rest until everyone always earned more than the average wage.

It was the 110% arithmetic incomprehension. (This bit's a joke, btw.)

It does seem rather too common, this "you must listen to and respect my opinion" irrespective of its merits.
It is of the same ilk as "If you work hard enough, you can achieve anything" nonsense.

The right to freedom of speech doesn't intrinsically offer you the right to be taken seriously.

24 hour news channels need to pump something out and presumably all the trendy Tristrams and Julians are now in editorial positions and applying their hard earned numeeja degrees to that arena, thus we are presented with utter diarrhea from the uninformed masses via email and text.
We need to bring back the stocks.

I think because the general standard is so low, the populace are far more likely to be able to name 10 people in this years 'strictly come w

Some Kevin Keegan quotes:-
'It's like a toaster, the ref's shirt pocket. Every time there's a tackle, up pops a yellow card.'
'The ref was vertically 15 yards away.'
'There are two schools of thought on the way the rest of this half is going to develop; everybody's got their own opinion...'
'Goalkeepers aren't born today until they're in their late twenties or thirties.'
'This could be a repeat of the final.'
'The game has gone rather scrappy as both sides realise they could win this match or lose it.'
'I don't think there's anyone bigger or smaller than Maradona.'
'England can end the millenium as it started - as the greatest football nation in the world.'
'They compare Steve McManaman to Steve Heighway and he's nothing like him, but I can see why - it's because he's a bit different'
Plenty more where they came from........
