eBay Concerns

I've heard many horror stories regarding eBay and PayPal with people buying things then telling tales to PayPal and getting their money back, leaving the seller out of pocket.

I'm selling something of fairly high value (around £500). I have stated that I would prefer cash on collection but due to the current highest bidders location it is going to have to be a courier job I think.

Am I really taking a big risk by accepting the PayPal money and sending the item? I really don't want to get stung and be left itemless and out of pocket.

Any advice would be welcomed.

I sold a guitar recently (nice Fender) and insisted on collection only; you don't have to take cash nowadays - could do an online transaction if you have a computer.

Paypal doesn't cover collections. The guy could say he never collected it, you won't have a leg to stand on and he will get the money back.

As long as you send it by a trackable method and can produce a tracking number you'll be OK, but personally I am still weary of selling high value stuff on ebay as I've been fked over a couple of times now despite doing everything by the book.

Biggest bunch of s going; if you need to contact them they make it physically impossible to do so and run such a shambles of a claims proceedure that basically freezes your money until it is sorted which drags on for ages.

To be honest, I might cancel the auction altogether. Would rather not have the hassle.

Make sure it's couriered so they have to sign for it. Paypal accept this as proof you have given them the goods. This leads to a whole new series of 'empty box' scams but it's not something you need to worry about. Do not, under any circumstances, let them pay by Paypal then collect.

I had one this week. Sold a new Ipod Touch guy bought and paid for it, then later that same day emailed me asking me to send it to a different address than the one on this paypal. Needless to say sent it to his Paypal address recorded signed for.

No doubt if I had sent it to the other address I would be getting a chargeback from paypal

take loads of pics of the serial numbers (time-stamped) etc just in case they say its broken and send a different broken one back
