Went into Starbucks the other day, my 1 month old daughter needed her milk warming, so I asked for a cup of boiling water to put the bottle in, fine, but it had to be kept behind the counter, WTF! apparently boiling water is an H&S risk, but boiling coffee is not, madness

I ordered a couple of bottles of J2O for myself in an bar/restaurant (one of those ones where you get a wooden spoon with your food order) last year. I'd already had one so had the empty glass back at my table.

"Don't worry about a new glass, I can use my old one, they're both for me so I'll just take the bottles"
"Can't do that"
"Er. Why?"
"Health and Safety."
"Eh?!"
"Bottles aren't allowed away from the bar"
"Er....OK.....I guess, just put them in a pint glass"
"Can't do that"
"No..of course not. Silly me"

I then watched her pour the drinks into two individual glasses....I felt much safer.

Pubs definitely seem to be some of the worst offenders when it comes to interpretation of the H&S laws. I saw interpretation as if I'm defending them but it does seem to be half of the problem, the pub/bar manager's interpretation.

My FIL helps out every year at the local beer festival where everyone gets given a pint glass, H&S came in a few years ago and said people could use the glass as a weapon so you have to put them in a plastic bag!! it was pointed out that people would swing them around in the said plastic bag and it would make more of a weapon. No that was fine!!
As said befor, i felt a lot safer!!

They made us do that at the Great Brit Beer Festival in London this year too.

This was obviously to stop you bottling the other punters in your drunken stupour as you walked back to the table.
