Flower arranging/bouquet help needed

I have today purchased some lilies for a lovely young lady whose home I shall be visiting for the first time tomorrow evening and I have decided that as they are only just opening they obviously look a bit lame on their own in the bouquet. Therefore my problem is what the hell do I mix them with obviously there must be specific romance flowers to add in? Obviously I have thought of roses, but this is now the limit of my flower knowledge exhausted.

Lilies are quite a powerful flower, and are usual best on the own with just greenery. You could just add some fern leaves, grasses, or some eucalyptus(to get a different colour of green) to them for the best effect. Word of warning lily pollen stains, so if any of the flowers are open it would be wise to remove their stamen.

The smell of lillies literally gives me a stomach ache. The best advice I can give is next time, buy a decent bottle of wine instead.

I work out at home so as not to humiliate the other men have the other men laugh at my 'muscles'.

Cracking advice thank you, I knew about the pollen stains already, but will maybe add some ferns and grasses tomorrow

Any more than 5 stems is overkill, imho. See how they're looking tomorrow - they may well have opened up a bit.

Overkill is the way to go!

Get some with lots of greenery and buds. Make sure they are well wrapped with lots of tissue paper etc.

The great thing about the exotic lily is that it looks really good in a minimalistic state. Make sure they are in a relatively small vase.

Many thanks ladies, I have 7 stems but they are a bit sparse in the wrapper as only two are part open, so I think some greenery is the way to go.

They are romance flowers too aren't they? I am paranoid now thanks to the posts further up, they are the orchid type.

They'll start opening up and will be stunning.

In future you need to find an excellent florist.

That way you can use their expertise to create something beautiful without flower arranging night classes/internet forum panic.

You might be a few tenners lighter, but the majority of women will appreciate said investment in a way that is fundamentally 'cost neutral' to most men.

shame you arent in London and dont go to columbia road.... I went with the OH and this lot was the result in my flat and they lasted a month:















The resultant cost for them all.... A massive £14

The fact that you care about the flowers you are about to give, marks you out as a decent gent and therefore puts you in the minority -to your advantage.

Still a bachelor pad till next wednesday/thursday then Im doomed....

Was £14 cause I went down just as they shut up shop and sell everything off cheap, it should have cost £60+, the orchids alone should have been £25 and I got them for £6.
