Silver Wedding Anniversary

It's my Mum and Dads Silver Wedding Anniversary soon and as such me and my younger brother want to get them something memorable. We're not throwing a party and they have treated themselves to a two week holiday in Austria. The two of us are prepared to spend a bit of money on them but to put it into context, younger brother works part time and is at uni so i will be funding two thirds of whatever we decide on. Current ideas have included a weekend break away in a country house, a spa gift, caterham hire, and a few other things. I keep thinking we should get something they can keep but cant decide.

Putting it to the pistonhead masses to come up with some novel ideas.

No, party idea was considered and we reckoned that they would not be in favour. Just really split between getting them a weekend away or something more memorable. Its certainly not easy.

Mum wanted a Hostess Trolley thing for their Silver, so that is what she got. Dad didn't want anything

It is their 40th the weekend after next and we've promised to buy them a HD TV - they need one and it is something they won't buy for themselves until the old one gives up the ghost (they have the rest of the kit, just can't watch the HD stuff )

Our parents went to Malta for their 30th (Pearl) so my sister and I gave them spending money, which was to be spent on treating themselves to a special meal out on the night of their anniversary, I can't remeber how much but it was a fair amount, money was tight for them at the time so I know they didn't have a lot of spare cash for spending, it took them long enough to save for the holiday!. (We put it in a card which they were not allowed to open until the day) They had planned to go out but it meant they could really splash out and save their money for the rest of their hols. We also bought them a pearl photo frame in which they put a photo of themselves from the holiday in.

For their silver I think we bought a silver tray and 2 champagne glasses, the tray had happy 25th on it and a set of Edinburgh Crystal wine glasses. (That was 11 years ago now so can't remember exactly!)

Hope that helps. Not the most imaginitive I suppose but our parents were very happy and that was the important thing!

You don't necessarily have to spend a lot but the thought definitely matters.
