my father is booked in for a pre-surgery examination at the hospital near euston station next wed morning and looking at the train fares from preston/blackburn (up to £500) it's looking cheeper to go on the tues any time and book in to a hotel. could someone reccomend somewhere cheap and clean for one night please? or offer some advice on travel arrangements etc? he has to be in euston at 10am on wed return the same day anytime after 6pm. It's an absolute nightmare any advice would be greatfully recieved.

cheers guys and gals thumbup

very cheap, about 15 minutes walk from Euston, was clean but sparse when I stayed a year or so ago: http://www.laterooms.com/en/hotel-reservations/971...

Not a fully featured hotel by any means! Rooms are tiny, have small ensuites (book the triple room if you can) and nowhere to eat in the hotel itself. Plenty of places to eat around there anyway, so didn't miss anything by staying in a cheap place.

If you go on www.thetrainline.com you can get a ticket that will get you there for £112, or if you dont mind arriving at 10:04 the ticket is just £87.50, and then a return is available for £31.50 at 8pm the same day. Far cheaper to buy two single tickets.

try travelodge - though not the Euston one as thats pricey. Go a tube ride away and they get cheaper

Look at Premier Inns and Travelodge website for locations. I notice a new one every time I go into the West End. You pretty much know what you're gonna get, clean, tidy and gererally good for what you're paying.
As mentioned, theres one on the Euston Road also one at Kings Cross which is only about a 10 minute walk away.
Not having to worry about delays and dealing with the morning rush hour make it worth coming down the day before.

thanks for that, managed to get my dad and his parter return journeys for £119, still seems bloody expensive when I've had a week on the costa del crime for not much more lol!
