Phone at home is dead as a dodo so nowadays you spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to find the section in the BT website, where you can A ...test your line and then B.... report the fault online. As far as i can see, you cant talk to some muppet.

Reported the fact that the line was dead and the super dooper site then tells you that an 'engineer' will call round in 4 days time. Woopy fking doo. Don't rush, take your time while I just put up with your total lack of customer care. Cocks. Then some bird from Delhi calls me on my mobile to tell me that an engineer will be round in 4 days time to see what the problem is. Brilliant.

No wonder they're losing money hand over fist as they really couldn't give a ste about retail clients. If only I had an option.

How did you get to the website if your phone line and broadband were down?

you do have an option.... you obviously have internet. get internet tv and phone from your current supplier. when i got divorced even though i had paid ALL the bills since my ex had left. BT wouldnt swap the account name over. they insisted on stopping one account ie no phone of BB for two weeks whilst they did a credit check on me ( bearing in mind i was paying bills and had paid since ex had left family home). told them to forget it. signed up to virgin and then cancelled BT and saved money............

Thats just the point. For some reason my broadband is working fine. I've taken filters out, put a wired phone in , tried all sockets around the house, borrowed a neighbours phone. Weird. When BT replied they told me there was , and I quote,an 'underground fault'. I assumed that if I could still get Broadband then my connection must be OK but they have told me otherwise. Mystery!

Have always been too traditional when it comes to utilities. Gas with British Gas, electricity with whoever supplies it round here , Norweb, and phone from BT. Last time we had to call out BT was 10 years ago when one of the neighbours trees had damaged the line and all was solved the same day. Excellent service so stayed with them. Time to change me thinks

Still maintained by openreach unfortunately,

It seems strange but I'm sure BT customers get stiffed on repair times, We look after a lot of CPs and most fault are cleared next working day,

Was with TalkTalk a while ago... customer service TERRIBLE. NTL weren't much better (although that was before they became Virgin).
No problems yet with converged suppliers, e.g. Sky or Orange.

I doubt speaking to someone in " good old blighty" rather than Delhi would get your phone fixed any quicker.

Well it is going to take 7 days for someone to walk into my exchange and push the "Give this person ADSL" button.

7 Days... do they need to wait for the pope to have a gap in his schedule to do it or something?

7 days you lucky bugger. Looks like it will be a month here after the month it took them to push the on button for the phoneline.

That is just pathetic. In most places it is not even a switch as they are all digital and you just push a button on the computer and it says yes.

A phone line has 4 wires in it, back in the olden days phones used to use all 4. Nowadays they only use 2 freeing up the other 2 for your broadband (thats what the micro filter does, splits the port into 2) so its probably a fault with one of the wires for the phone.

I had the exact opposite problem years ago that the internet went down but the phone line was still working.
