RATS Have i killed the bastard things?

Been having a nightmare with rats (not the type you would want to name) in a farm building. Basically the blighters have tunnled into insulation in a ventilation duct. I've been filling the run up with a poisonous paste for about 10days. Every morning the run has been opened up again and most of the paste has gone, presumably eaten but still they live.. Also have a variety of other baits and a trap down there but they wont touch any of them. So as it was awet day we set about sealing up all the holes and ran a pipe to a tractor exhaust, pumping diesel fumes into the most used run for about 3 hrs.
Is carbon monoxide an effective ratticide or will the tunnel be reopened by tomorrow morning??

CO is an effective 'icide to anything that wants to breath oxygen!

However, rats are proof that evolution is a fact. The blighters have evolved to recognise and avoid, or simply be immune to all kinds of poisons.

There is no doubt that humans are the inferior species, and when we wipe ourselves out in nuclear wars over climate change and christian-muslim issues, its the rats left to pick up the pieces.

All hail our rodent overlords!

Allow rats, and only the rats to eat it.

Provide rats with drinking water.

Why not? Surely to pay for their keep a quick coat of magnolia will brighten the place up. You might have to supply the paint and some minature rollers though as I'm not sure they would get served at B&Q.

Shouldn't you use a petrol motor for carbon monoxide?

Damn, had a niggling doubt about a diesel engine working. Maybe should've used the lawnmower instead.
