South Africa and Colombia tend to be highest for murders per capita, Mexico must be soaring up the charts too, but I'm guessing the statisticians in Somalia have a difficult job getting their figures.

OK as long as you don't take the piss. Bit like anywhere really. Only been there for a few days but it's kinda similar to Nigeria - not as bad as everyone says.

I get to travel to some odd but fairly normal places. The travel insurance policy we have is very good though, and some of my colleagues have been to some interesting places. But, the travel insurance will not cover business travel to pakistan, Columbia and Mexico for an extended period of time....

Which is relatively interesting I suppose.

As for Sao Paulo, yes apparently it is a better than it was (67% reduction in murder rate since 2000) and even more so if you stay out of the poorer parts (something that could be said of any major city)

Nope been there 2006 & 2007 & had no issues there. There are bits you don't go to but that applies in a UK city.
Worked in Libya with no probs in 1993 as well.

When my dad went to Mexico for 2 weeks on business he was not allowed to leave the hotel without a (very angry looking) minder.

Apparently foreign business men get kidnapped all the time in Mexico city for ransom.
