Dog hit by car

Took the dog out 2 hours ago and she saw a cat over the road, not on a lead
she ran after it and got hit by a car driving slowly, i live in a dead end
and it was on a blind corner, hence driving slow.

She looks fine, no cuts, and she walks/runs fine, still begging for buscuits.

Is there anything i should look for.

I know i'm going to get stick, for the no lead, but she usually don't run
off, and i'm only 30 seconds to the woods.

Cheers for any advice.

First of all, as expected -
WALK YOUR DOG ON THE LEAD, and even if "she usually don't run
off, and i'm only 30 seconds to the woods" you see that it doesn't help and next driver may not be driving slowly.

Second - just keep an eye on her for next couple of days and if anything unusual occurs take her IMMEDIATELY to the vet.

Doubt there is much wrong with her if she's eating drinking and moving about ok. Probably just a bit of bruising and shock. Keep her warm and cosy tonight and I bet she'll be OK. Probably a bit sore tommorrow as any bruising comes out more.

Maybe a Vet could give better advice than an internet forum for car nuts?

get her to the vet asap to get checked over, i beleive most areas have 24 hour vets emergency surgerys. not worth waiting to find out IMO

If she is moving around and not showing any signs of discomfort then she is probably ok.

Had a similar thing happen to me ,exercising dogs in a park and a cat ran across and both dogs took off after it .Cue screech and big bang!

Thankfully the bigger dog got hit(the smaller would have gone under) - he managed to put a fist sized dent in the bonnet of a Polish 206! He was perfectly ok ,if a little surprised by the whole affair. I phoned the vets emergency no. and they suggested that I give him an Aspirin!

Dog runs out, car swerves, car hits kid at side of road!

Of course your dog never runs off, but just for that tiny, infinitesimal chance it does I'd say its damn worth putting it on a lead - NO?

Not really - but glad to hear your dog is okay.

If youve still got the drivers details - a bottle of something quality probably wouldnt go a miss as a 'thankyou for not killing my dog / or driving any quicker.. and sorry for any upset caused!'

Yes I did pay him! As he was Polish I figured £80 was enough! I was more than happy to pay ,as he was obviously paying attention - I heard the screech of brakes and the thud. It must be about 6 years ago now ,and I recently moved back to the same area ,and on our walks now pass the spot where it happened - Jake definitely remembered!He was quite skittish for a couple of weeks whenever we walked past. I still cant believe he wasn't killed or seriously injured - luckily he is a big GSD and his size saved him.

If your dog is behaving normally after this amount of time, then it is quite possible that there is no major damage, but if the car wheel went over the chest or abdomen, then there is a chance of internal bleeding which is effectively invisible to you. I would recommend you contact your vet who is obliged to provide a 24hr service, speak to them and get their opinion. If your dog appears to become weak, excessively tired, breathing hard, cold or ill in any other way then it becomes a vital necessity to get immediate vet attention. Hope that helps and you don't need any help from my kind.

TheVet, cheers, the dog did'nt get run over (thank god) just hit by the car.

Will see what she's like tomorrow, she seems ok, she is tired at the moment, but she's been out all day running around an airfield.
