So, I bought something off eBay almost 2 weeks ago now, paid for it as always as soon as the auction ends. I waited a week and nothing at all, so contacted the seller (3 days ago) and nothing. I'm sending another message (a polite one, I'm not one of these who sends nasty messages straight away). What do I do if my message goes unanswered, do I give him/her another chance, or do I go straight to eBay/Paypal on this? If not when's an acceptable timespan until I should?
I always look at member's feedback ratings before bidding, the seller in question has loads of positive ones but one negative, saying something like "been over a month and I haven't received anything, went to Paypal to get money back and was sent abusive messages labelling me a liar and thief". This made me think slightly, but given the number of items the user has sold, and the large number of positive feedback, I thought it might be something that was lost in the mail. The item was £20 including postage, which isn't a lot compared to what some people have lost through eBay, but thinking like a student, it's 2 nights out.
So, what should I do?

Start a Payapl dispute for item not received, if anything that will get their attention, and then give it 24 hours and escalate it, then you should get your money back

request sellers details from ebay ,this sends a notification to the seller that you have asked for it and sometimes includes a phone number of the seller ,i have done this before and got good results from it .

Get the dispute open. It's the way of getting your money back if it doesn't turn up and it will notify the seller that you won't let him get away with anything dodgy.

And then when you get no response you still have to open the dispute and then wait the 7-14 days (not sure which it is) before you can get your money back. winklaugh

Hmm, I'm goint to wait until the post has been delivered today until I open a dispute, might give contacting the seller one more try before I do though, I know sometimes there can be legitamate reasons (holiday etc) but when you click ask a question eBay comes up with a load of click on things like "where is my item" which I clicked and it said delivery estimate 1st/2nd Sept

What is it? Is it some huge item or a small packet? Business seller or personal?

You sound like me and just too polite. Put in a claim! Remember, sellers cannot leave bad feedback now, so what have you to lose?

Just start the dispute - I've found stuff miraculously appears a day later, or contact is made and refund offered.

It's an R/C car bodyshell, about 200mm wide x 350mm long. Supposedly been sent 1st class recorded (according to eBay)

I'd expect no more than a week before I starting chasing it, politely at first then rather rudely if they didn't dignify me with a response.

If it was sent recorded delivery ask for the tracking number so you can see if it was delivered or not. It could be with a neighbour or something. If he won't give you the number, he's probably full of st.

If he's not responding, definitely start a dispute.

Had another message asking could I please close the dispute, as his PP account has been blocked until I do. Naturally I'm slightly suspicious of this, and have sent a message back asking that he gives me a tracking number for the item before I do. The only thing is obviously once I do there is no comeback if anything goes wrong, and I did read a topic on here a while back when the OP signed for an empty package, which turned out to be the buyer so he could use that tracking number to accuse the OP of that topic of not giving him a refund. Turned into quite a good thread IIRC. What do you guys think I should do?

Don't close the dispute - if you do PayPal assume all is sorted and you are truly screwed if he doesn't send it, IIRC.

Leave it open, tell him to send the item (like he said he would) and you will close the dispute upon arrival.

Ref the recorded delivery of the empty package, dont sign for the package until you've opened it and checked that the goods you expect are in there.

Sounds fishy, He was able to get on the net just after you raised a dispute. Keep open until you get what you paid for.

What did I say? biggrin

I've had that excuse, plus "the budgie got run over", "granny fell off a cliff" and a few other unique excuses in the past.
