Biomass Energy
Discussion
Is it me or does this seem all a bit lame?. Billions being invested in making electricity from burining trees! come on people we were living in caves and burning trees to keep alive thousands of years ago and now all we can come up with as the next best thing is burning them again. Poor trees.
Burning domestic waste - that's what we need to be doing. Take a waste product and create something useful rather than put it in a hole in the ground where it, errr, sits. Mainly rotting. And making methane.
Works in Switzerland who heat whole towns from the resultant heat, and flue-scrubbers take care of all the nasty bi-products.
Is it just me who thinks we are missing a trick?

There are sawmills in Europe that make energy for the entire mill from biomass energy - the waste products from the sawing process. Some mills make more money from selling the excess energy back to the grid as opposed to selling finished timber!
It's not dark-age tech at all. And as for 'poor trees'... they are cutting from plantation stock..

Of course, if you look at the sankey diagrams of biomass, there are usually a lot of factors left out.
Biomass is one thing.
Recycling the energy out of something is totally another.
Sadly, fossil fuel conservation is one thing, plant food gas hysteria is another. We should be concentrating on the former, instead, we are hopelessly wasting time with the latter.

Could someone check out this persons thoughts please :-

He is either a repressed genius or a spaced out hippy. I can't quite decide which
His assertision is that basically hemp is the only plant in the world that can grow prolifically enough to actually be used as a biomass energy source.

Bio - energy, whether it be bioethanol or burning stuff for heating is a lost cause. If you want to remove fossil fuels and so completely eco, the crops needed to sustain it would be more than are currently grown to feed the planet!
But what about the billions of tonnes of food we throw away every year?Plenty of capability for energy production there!

it's not just trees that they burnmany supermarkets are now converting to biomass boilers and are burning the waste they generate
less landfill requirement, less transport needed to move waste, less dependency from the national grid, etc, etc
it's no bad thing
