West End shows - last minute bookings?

Organising a trip to the theatres for next year and I am looking at buying a laod of tickets to one of the more popular shows

Does anyone know if you can get a disocutn on Saturday shows? Or are they normally sold out anyway?

Secondly, someone has suggested ticket offices where you can go on the day and buy much cheaper tickets - obviously a risky strategy when travelling from 2 hours away. Anyone know what availability and pricing is like doing it this way?

Was down in London earlier in the year, around Leicester Square there are a number of official ticket offices on the corners selling tickets for the shows that are on in the theatres next door, all at discounted prices. Might be worth turning up on the day ???
