hi, i suspect this will get moved, but i am not sure where to put it, but its not about cars although the first bit happened in a car.

a few days ago coming home from work i came up behind some micra in dual carriageway, i was showing about 65 - 70 on the clock. now i pulled out, no one else about and as soon as i tried to go past the micra driver puts their foot down, so i had to up my speed considerably to get past and in, i was annoyed with myself for rising to it, but strangest of all was as i dropped back to 65 - 70, i expected the micra to go past and yet it just dropped further behind.

i imagine i am not the only one who has had this.

now this is the bit of my post i am puzzled by.

walking into town to go to the bank the other day from work, i come up behind a chap on a fairly narrow pavement, now i am not the fastest walker at all, but i had plenty of space to pop in the road and get past. except he speeds up to stop me going past and i had to do that half jog thing to get in in front of him before a van took me out that came along. its not the first time i have noticed it, is it just me?

I think this is because when people are overtaken they realise that they are probably dawdling/daydreaming. This embarasses them so their first reaction is to speed up.

When I overtake people whilst walking, I tend to drop down a couple of cogs and make some revving noises whilst going past the slower person.

This also applies to 'driving' the shopping trolley in the supermarket where I also throw in some tyre screeching noises whilst I 'drift' around the aisles.

Of what relevance this has to the OP's conundrum I don't know, but I thought I'd just throw it out there.

yes do this all the time, great fun! My favorite bit of pavement for a hoon is over the waterloo bridge when its really busy, nice wide pavement packed with dawdling tourists, I must look a proper loony weaving in and out making little gear shift movements with my left hand and mumbling revvy noises to myself.

Thinking about it more, I probably look a complete nutter! twitching left hand and talking to myself!

Must put a stop to it.

Indeed. You are waking them from their happy place. Itf you hadn't done that they would have slowed down so much they would have died. Well done. Next time wait for them to die, push them into the gutter where they will not cause an obstruction any more.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this.

Though as I have no shame, I will not stop, but instead increase the volume of my V8 noises...

I do this when pushing a shopping trolley, along with dump valve noises, tyre screech etc etc

My trolley appears to be fitted with a Flat Four Turbocharged engine from a Subaru Impreza, but has been converted to RWD. Using the one sided cheek/lip vibration method the sound can be fairly accurately recreated. The Waste Gate can be achieved with a Chssh after a gear change.

Yes I thought it had been resurrected when I saw this... don't have time to search for it now though.

I've rolled a Tescos trolley, by accident(honest),in the car park.
Empty, which I'm equally releived and annoyed about, might nick someone elses and try again, sometime.

It's the same when cycling. You see someone up ahead and feel you have to catch them up. When you get to them and try overtaking, they speed up.

I have about 3 or 4 mini races a day on my bike but there's one old geezer who I just can't beat.
