Problem is most dobermanns are wimps! They're always shown in American movies as guard dogs but they seem to have lost a lot of that trait here, most are nervous wrecks! I used to know a huge one owned by a large guy who owned a nightclub, whenever he brought the dog in to stay with us he had to leave it with a jumper of his. The dog would suck on the jumper, if he didn't have it the dog would howl the place down

Not to say they couldn't do a lot of damage if they decided to turn, it's just over the years of working with dogs, they have not been a breed I have felt the need to be wary of.

Dogs are only as "fearsome" as they are raised to be by their owners. There is no such thing as a vicious breed of dog, any dog can be conditioned that way.

Bloke down the road from me has one of them & although it's not that big, it really is a seriously big dog. Fits quite happily in the back of a Shogun - just! It's the same dog that's in Harry Potter. I did some work for a woman that had a massive thing - like a bloody bear with dreadlocks but can't for the life of me think what it was. Soft as anything mind.

I agree, I normally find GSDs are as soft as anything around my excitable Springer and just look at him like he's a dick. But a month or two ago I met a complete of an owner that had 3 and the two that were off their lead ran straight over to me and Springer and were instantly aggressive towards my dog (who was on a lead as we were on a road heading back towards the country park).

They bolted straight out of a field right up to us. I pulled my dog as close to me as possible with his tail between his legs and I was waiting for one to get close enough for a size 12 walking boot to the face. Both were still aggressive and taking it in turns to run at my dog. All the while this stupid weedy dhead that had brought them there and let them off the lead stood about 20 metres away while the dogs ignored him. If I didn't care so much for my dog I would have waited for the and seen how he liked to be intimidated by something much bigger and more aggressive. Even now typing this, it still pisses me off.

Ive spent a couple of years conditioning our Caucasian Ovcharka ,
with family and close neighbours and other dogs he's fine , he allows the cats to eat out of his bowl,and the neighbours chuahua plays fine with him

however he has a default that is naturaly very, very agresive , they are used by the Russian army and also in the Caucas mountains to guard sheep. They will easily kill a wolf.

ours is so insanely territorial , there is a sign on the gate ""Beware of the Dog ""
at 90kg he will charge up the garden knock you flying , then pin you down , hes already bitten the arse out of some scroate that tried to break in , funny the chap never returned.

Can be but I've met plenty theat aren't. some really do have very sweet natures.
