Quickie this, wife bid for and won a handbag, it was described as 'Leather' many times in the ad, arrived and hey presto, 100% man made. Sellers first offer is to refund item amount (not postage) wifey wants postage plus her costs to return the item. Bought via Paypal.

Is it the norm for the money to be returned first, or the item to be returned, as seller seems slightly reluctant to play ball (her first email, when wifey complained, was 'read the ad, NO REFUNDS')

And if seller turns arsey, is it easiest to deal with Paypal, or ebay to complain...

Cheers

Dave

Paypal. Talking to the seller is usually a waste of time and all they will do is delay as much as possible in the hope you'll go away.

Mis-description on eBay is rarely a genuine mistake...

Paypal, but you'll probably only get a refund and not costs

Through Paypal as a singnificantly not as described, she will have to send it back, and it's best to send it back via tracable means (or the seller can say it didn't arrive).

Saying that, is he describing it as a designer bag? I mean she could say that it;s a fake and not have to send it back, it needs to be seen by Trading Standards etc and will probably need to be destroyed.

I thought Paypal and eBay were the same company nowdays? What an arse though, I brought some second hand headlights once, described as mint no chips or marks, one was full of moss and the other chipped to death!

Two cheeks of the same arse - to coin a phrase, but they are so tightly integrated, and even more so coming in the next few weeks, that they work quite well in dispute resolutions.

As above you will need to send it back at your own cost, and by recorded/special delivery. Any decent seller would refund the entire amount, including return postage, but then any decent seller would not try to fob you off with a plastic handbag in the first place.
For maximum effect, go through paypal dispute using the SNAD process, as soon as it is delivered, or even an attempted delivery is made, then paypal will refund your original payment. Dont forget to use the negative feedback option, and leave 1 star for each of the 4 ratings. All of these will count against the seller performance dashboards that ebay use to judge sellers.

The sooner the crap sellers are removed, the better it is for the decent sellers to continue to thrive on there.
