Just watching my 11 year old GSD asleep on the living room floor, twitching like a mad thing. He looks like he is running in a dream - back legs going like pistons! My other dog used to do it as well.

Anyone know what is going on here - some sort of subliminal response?

Does he sleep-bark too? Our old dog did... sometimes he even woke himself up when he did it a bit too loud.

Very funny to watch!

Our cats do the same. They are definitely dreaming. Sometimes they have dream fights and raise their ridge hairs, one of them even hisses in his sleep. Mentals.

biggrin mine does that too as well as the twitching. I always assumed it was a dream, similar to our REM.

Sometimes he does make a noise ,more of a whimper that a bark - nothing like his normal woof.

Anyone who doesn't believe their dog is dreaming when it does this shouldn't have a dog.

Oldie but a goodie. Dogs seem to dream of hunting. Makes sense, and is hilarious hehe

Dogs twitch the same way we do.

My Grandad used to have extremely vivid dreams. He once dreamed he was running away from the mob (had a dark past) and got on to a ladder and was kicking away the dogs sent to chase him and kicked my nan black and blue.

Best one was when he had a dream that he was holding up the house. They lived in a tiny end of terrace on a very steep hill. In his dream, he was petrified that the house was going to fall down the hill so had to rush outside and hold it up!

He woke up the next morning absolutely exhausted!

Love that clip of the dog - made me laugh out loud smile mad things.

My Dad told me about a dream he had once about his days in the army. He said he was in a land-rover and they were trying to get away from a firefight. One of his mates was running alongsode the land-rover and trying to climb in and my Dad was trying to pull him into the cab. He said the whole time he was doing this in the dream the driver of the land-rover to his right ' quote' this big fat bd' wouldn't move over give my Dad enough room to pull his mate into the land-rover. So eventually my dad gave the big fat bd a really hefty kick to move him over.

About the same time my Mum found herself on the floor next to the bed.

Forgot - I had a dream that I was playing for Liverpool (dunno why, I'm a Spurs bloke) and I lined up the ball for a penalty, stepped back 5 paces, concentrated on the ball, the crowd whistling was eradicated from my mind, a few deep breaths, started the run up, focused on the valve, planted my left foot next to the ball, swung back my right leg and hit through the ball with all my might - and put my foot through the stud wall to the left of the bed breaking two toes - much to the amusement of my wife frown
