A bit of advice needed...
Girlfriend of 5 years has decided to 'have a break' from the relationship on Monday. She has already been to see flats, however, as expected the ugly topic of money has come up....
Basically I own the flat and all bills etc are in my name, she only has ever paid rent (sometimes).
She did however by a sofa and has asked for cash for it so put down as a 1st month deposit, which seems fair, as she doesn't earn a lot, and hopefully will remain friends (yeah of course).....
However, typically my less supportive mates seem to be under the impression she 'owns' half the flat even thou we are not engaged/married, no kids etc.
Am hoping this is not the case as she came into the relationship with less than nothing and only works a day or two a week, and I pay for the majority of things and work 7 days a week (part (most) of the reason for the break)...
Just trying to find out where I stand. Hopefully someone can enlighten me.

The best she could get is a small percentage based on the amount of rent she has contributed, this would cost her far more in legal fees than she would gain, you have absolutely no worries.
I'd do some form of separation agreement, give her some token amount and wave goodbye.
Just in case you haven't yet realised she's probably boffing somebody else.

I would also be inclined to just give her the Sofa and then head out and get another one.
Also, I think it's unlikely she will have any interest in your house. If she didn't contribute to the purchase price nor running costs then it's more difficult for her. My mind does say there is something about living together for six months, hopefully someone will know more about that.

I thought it was the case that if she is paying rent and nothing else (she is a tennant in the eyes of the law) and entitled to nothing.
I will have the same issue with my GF if it ever came down to it, she contributes nothing except rent to me, b
hes at the fact I should get different bills (that would cost me several hundred more a year, but I would be eco firendly) until she is reminded that she can pay half of the bills if she likes and then she has a say... shuts her up!!

She came with nothing therefore unless she can prove that she has paid into the household and not as a tennent (for example mortgage), she gets nothing!!

Thank you for the initial replies, it looks like I may be in the clear-ish compared to the last disaster of losing half a house I brought with someone else. However I will speak to lawyer type to confirm my situation to be on the safe side.
And yes she probably is seeing someone else, but I am/have been a bit of an ar5e in the past, and would just be karma working it's thing out.
