The other half is currently in slow labour with our first child (a girl). Sitting here whiling (sp) away the hours waiting for something to happen and trying to put the feeling into words seems really hard. The contractions are currently only 8-10 min apart but theres no point in going into hospital yet because they tell you only to come in at 5 min apart. She's on the sofa at the minute snoring her head off as she's exhausted due to getting no sleep last night and I just wish I could do something to help her. The tens machine seems to be doing the job and the bags packed and in the car ready to go. Kind of feel euphoric at the minute and could quite easily burst into tears of joy, god knows what I'll be like when the baby is delivered!

Hint - when in the delivery room try the gas and air. It's like having 5 pints of Stella in 6 seconds.

Good luck, it's a great experience (watching).

Shattered probably!

Good luck...

Take a pillow- the delivery suits are, funnily enough, pretty 'bloke unfriendly'.
Ended up sat on a plastic school chair from 5pm to 5am waiting for our little 'un to pop out!

Good luck. Our first is due tomorrow but apart from a couple of false alarms there has been no sign of him!

I haven't slept well for about a month - I'm constantly on edge!

Good luck to md. and pmanson.

It is worth the wait believe me. The first time you hold the little 'un it is amazing.

That's unfortunate.

You do realise they won't win the next election!

When they come around asking if you want a cup of tea - they're talking to your Missus - NOT you.

Oh and if it's a Ventouse delivery don't look!

Good luck to you and the missus smile

Good luck fella and enjoy the experience!

Brings back memories of when my daughter was born, I got a call at work to say things had started happening, so I dashed out of the office (only a ten minute fast walk away), and arrived home to find the 1979 Alfasud 1.3ti had decided to rid one of its tyres of all its air. Wouldnt inflate again so needed to put the spare on.

Needless to say with the impending arrival of a nipper panic mode set in and temporarily blinded me - I couldnt find the wheel wrench, couldnt get the jack to work, and even after jacking the car up and undoing the wheel it wouldnt come off - Bit of percussive maintenance with the wheel wrench sorted that...

This probably all happened in the blink of an eye and within minutes we were winging our way to the hospital - 3 hours later nipper arrives and my back was killing me - Not from having changed the tyre and messing around with the jack etc! The now ex had decided she was uncomfortable laying on her back so for those 3 hours of labour I was holding one of her legs in the air whilst she lay on her side puffing on the happy gas rolleyes

PS. She tried the tens machine, but by the time things got a little more serious she was far more entertained by the gas! laugh

You're not kidding. They don't tend to tell you about the first month after either. It's like an abattoir down there.
