Gift Ideas for a Vow Renewal Ceremony ...

Right! I'm attending a vow renewal type thing at the end of October and need some ideas for a gift! I've ruled out a bread maker or toaster, whereas a decent bottle of wine or some fancy picture frames are in reserve

Any ideas, perhaps some that are unconventional?

I know the bride through work and we're good friends, but she has now moved up to Scotland so haven't spoken in awhile!

I was dragged to one of these recently and I think we took a bottle of (cheap) champagne as a token. It was their 17th anniversary not even a milestone one. I detest this whole idea - "look at me - I want to be the centre of attention in my big dress/smart suit".

I've never heard such a thing - is this something new from America? Have they divorced and remarried?

I'll clear things up for you!

The couple were married, split, never divorced and have now got back together after 4 years - They want to renew their vows and start afresh! I've been invited along with a few other people from work who were there to support her in the hard times ...

Basically it is a black tie affair, in a posh stately manor type place, with full on dinner and a reception party afterwards

I haven't been to a wedding since I was about 8 years old! I thought a vow renewal ceremony might require a present - A toaster or bread maker is out of the question though!

Its all the rage. Every now and then the church we were married at umpty squillion years ago write to us and suggest we visit to renew our vows. They very kindly include a menu based price list for the service, isnt that nice.

The churching business must be slow....

I clicked this thread 'cos I thought it would be amusing.
So far the replies are lacking in in the bad taste we have come to expect and enjoy.

Vow renewal smacks of repeating an action and expecting a different result.

Symbolic bottle of plonk should suffice.
