What town would you want to live in?

According to the other thread the whole of Britain is crap! Surely there are some decent places out there?

I'm going to start and suggest Lincoln.

It is big enough to have everything you want and small enough to still feel homely plus round by the Cathedral it is a genuinely place to be. Property prices are not ridiculous and there are some decent jobs in the area.

Downsides are that it is a nightmare to get to anywhere else from due to pretty crap roads in/out and it can feel a bit 'provincial' sometimes. I'd say the positives definately outweigh the negatives though.

The road going into Lincoln is one of the most dangerous in Britain, but apart from that I agree it is a very pretty place.

My vote goes to Harrogate, though. Pretty, charming, affluent, good range of facilities and within commuting distance of the big northern towns.

The old part of Lincoln is lovely. Lincolnshire is a well-kept secret, don't publicise it too much! Other nice small towns in lincs are Louth and Horncastle.
I find Harrogate a bit twee and with too many professional yorkshiremen (and women). Plus being close to some of the many grotty northern towns is a downside, not a plus.

Would quite like to go back to Tavistock though or a seaside town down the south west.

I like Dartmouth - although only been there on holiday so not sure what it would be like to actually live there!

Also think Perth is nice - lots of lovely countryside all around yet easy to get up to the Highlands and also easy for Edinburgh and Glasgow.

I was trying to think of the other lovely town down on in Devon that I'd been to and loved but couldn't remember the name, Dartmouth!

Harrogate, North Yorks
Hadleigh, Suffolk
The Mumbles, Swansea
Kilkenny
Honfleur, Normandy
Also, Quite like my local town, Bury, Lancs. Has some bad parts but overall a pleasant little place.

I'm pretty happy with the selection of places I've lived so far: Lancaster, Cambridge, Richmond (London) and Bath. London is a little big for me so I think remaining here in Bath will do

SW is the greatest area, thats why I live there, tho I do miss my old stomping ground of Leeds every now and again.

This is where we fall out, big time!

When I mentioned London, I was referring to north of the river. Iirc, south of the Thames consists mainly tundra and bears.

Guildford, only certain parts mind you. I lived there for a year and moved at the end of August, and with a bit of luck I could be back living there within the next month if my interview on Monday goes well (fingers crossed).

I couldn't imagine ever permanently living in a town or city, is nice as a retreat, but prefer a more rural location. I like where I am now, nice twisty B roads, a few miles from a small market town. Not far from Cambridge, easy commute in to London. Other than here I really would like a property in West Sussex near Petworth/Byworth/Duncton. Such beautiful villages and just next to Goodwood.

St Ives is great but a it's too touristy for my liking. I prefer Padstow.

My choice town though will be Alderley Edge after the bypass is finished, or the rural area of Adlington just down the road (just to be obscure).

Agree with Harrogate, have some friends that live there, very nice, and a pleasant-ish nightlife too if you avoid yates's.

Only problem is, its ooopp naarth and as we all know its rubbish up there

:shudders: Have you ever actually been to Huntingdon? .

Had an engineer make this mistake a few years back, he was somewhere facing the sea and asked directions to my work place...!
