Hoax email. HMRC

Had an email from HMRC stated I am eligible for a tax refund. Not gone any further, but does seem very suspect. I assume some guy sitting in Nigeria?

Email address is:

and says...

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of xxx GBP. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 2-3 days in order to process it.

put the full email header on here or read it yourself and u will be able to see that is not his email address,and yes its probably this guy

Last time I got a tax refund it was sent by letter.

I wouldn't think any formal document such as that would be sent via e-mail (though I despair at the thought that in future the Govt will, for cost cutting reasons, seek to do exactly that).

I suspect that if you hadn't put xxx for the actual amount of the refund the actual amount would be the same as I, and a number of my friend, have been told that we are entitled to receive. Obviously a scam. Have you supplied your email address for tax related matters?

HMRC are going to great pains to tell people thatb they NEVER e-mail tax payers directly.

Then, someone brought it up a couple of weeks before that too.

Iirc, it came up a few weeks before that time as well.
