What is wrong with some kids?

Was at a hotel last weekend with my dog. I am getting her out of the car when some brat walks past, and growls at her. She immediately takes up the attack stance and begins her warning growl. Said kid runs to his dad's car... I am effing and blinding (as the father is sat in the car with the window down) about how stupid some people can be and they ought to control their kids if they want to see them grow up.
Had he been closer she'd have been able to tear his head off before I could stop her.
So my question is, just how f****ng stupid are kids these days, growling at a dog. And what sort of parent doesn't tell their scrote off for doing that.

At the end of the day, the parents probably had no idea that there child was walking past random dogs & growling at them! They are probably more concerned at there child taking drugs or shooting someone. I am a dog owner myself & if my dog growled at somebody for doing it to him, i would be alarmed & extremely angry with my dog & i would be taking him straight to some training classes to sort his attitude out. Kids will be kids unfortunately.

Nothing is wrong with her. Growling is a sign of aggression, so the dog responds in kind, issuing a warning. That is what they do. I am just pleased my dog issued a warning rather than just straight attacking (as I've seen other dogs do when growled at by dogs). What is wrong with your dog that it flips out if someone growls at it?
That was my concern. Another dog could have just lunged straight at the kid and torn his face off.
And yes, it is surprising how many hotels permit dogs actually, if you ask.
As much as the kid shouldn't have done that I really would never expect my dog to react in that way. Chances are he'd look at the kid a bit bemused, or have taken no notice at all, if he ever reacted the way your dog did I'd be horrified.

Yep, had it the other month. A kid wound up my dog by going up to the car and sticking his fingers through the cage mesh. I asked him to step away from the car. His father who was watching this happen started hurling abuse at me and the people I was with. Screaming expletives and threatening to bring his family and pitbulls down to sort me out and kill my dog. This is still in front of the kid who was about 5 or 6. I was brought up to respect people and their belongings. If I was even to touch a car, let alone stick my hands in to touch a potentially dangerous dog, who is protecting their property I would have been in big trouble. If they learn from their parents, this little lad dosn't hold out much hope

As much as it's wrong for anyone to growl, stick fingers through cages etc, the law will always protect the person rather than the animal! If any dog is kept in a cage, it's wrong & indicates to me that the dog is dangerous & should under NO circumstances be taken anywhere where there is human life. No dog should bite if trained properly full stop!

My dogs are bred to take down threats. A growl is threatening. The fact that the dog didn't attack is good news. That's what guarding breeds can do.Hope the kid will think twice next time though!
I've seen a few dogs lunge immediately when another dog growls at them, one being a Rottie, one being a GSD. I've seen a fair few fights caused in the village by dogs growling because they are nervous, and being attacked by the dog they growled at. But I must confess I think about 50% of the dogs in this area are aggressive towards other dogs - far more so than I've ever seen anywhere else I've lived.
But yes, I hope the kid will think twice as well. Next time he might not get away with it.

That's the thing, this one is a reasonable size, but very friendly (it was quite a shock going through the hotel with loads of people stopping us to stroke and cuddle the mutt - and one fellow got a kiss for his efforts - from the dog I hasten to add, not me). However, when threatened, an animal will either fight or flight, and this one is bred to deal with threats. I have no problems with people asking if they bite before stroking my dogs, in fact I think it's a good idea to check - though it never ceases to amaze me how people can walk straight up to one of my dogs and stroke it without even asking.....
