Am I correct in the belief that the best man organises the stag do with the groom having very little input? My best man is asking me about it but I dont know whether to do the organising myself or let him do it. With him in the south and me in the north, I've had to call upon a local mate to help organise names/numbers but we're just looking to get it sorted now. Wedding is next June..

Also, I'm open to any original ideas that anyone might have. Ok then they might not be that original but anything outside of the usual piss up/strip club option.

As I understand it the stag do is the best mans job but if geographical situations are in the way then you can help by setting a start point for him ( unless they plan on kidnapping you)and telling your mates .

Do what you want and bks to "tradition".

I went for few pints and a curry with my friends. Perfect.

Beats me why anybody would want to force their friends to shell out several hundred quid and several days (because it can't be just one night any more!) getting stfaced and trying to fk up the groom as much as possible...

Make sure you give everybody plenty of notice. I'm off to a stag in a couple of weeks - sadly nobody bothered telling any of the lads it was happening until Monday, so thats cheap flights gone, cheap hotels gone and other plans which are having to be put off - oh and last minute holidays from work. Great. I'm sure it will be a blast, but its a royal pain at the moment.

we did the opposite, I looked after the groom, but did a load of things not normally done by the folks joining, it wasnt too expensive but eas fun to do something rather than just night out drinking...

You'll do the organising and logistics with help from relevant delegates but there are no rules really.

If the groom wants a surprise itinerary of events, do that.

If he wants to do basket weaving in a women's refuge, respect that (sort of).

If he wants to be buggered by strap-on wielding Latvian prostitutes, start dialling 118 118.

But forget 'tradition' and talk about what he wants. Often the simpler the better.

ETA if geography is a problem, and all the likely attendees have an email address/internet access, get a free Huddle account and organise it through that.

Teesside actually but I want to do something different. The geographical issue means nothing really as all of the lads who are further afield can easily stop at my place. Its just if my best man needs to know about any places around here then he needs to consult my local mate.

I'd love to go abroad but I'm not sure how many can carry the cost with kids/job problems etc. At the end of the day its about the company rather than where you're at, although location does help to a degree. I think I'd rather a core of people than it getting totally blown out of proportion with every man and his dog coming along so I'll be putting some hurdles in the way to sort out those who are genuinely interested.

Ha! Too close - here! The best Karting centre is in Langbaurgh and it really is a good place. Theres a local Paintballing place too but I'm not sure how good it is.

Nights out, theres Newcastle/Leeds/York. I wasnt that impressed with York though. There is also the overseas option (but cost will probably put some off). I'd love to go back to Germany where I had a superb time in Berlin, it was a totally mad place in darkest February

It is indeed the Best Mans job to sort out the stag w/e.

I had my twin brothers stag w/e earlier this year (I was Best Man). 7 of us went to Puerto Banus. It was simply amazing ! For what it's worth, I can recomend this hotel:

I really enjoyed being best man ..

Good luck matey.

in my case I chose the location / rough budget as I knew who was coming and what was affordable

then my best men did all the tedious bits of organising, booking, getting the money in.

I went to Riga and had a blast, have not enjoyed the UK-based weekends as much as its just another Saturday night in some UK town IMHO, with a bit of added silliness / strippers.

Given your location, may I suggest that Sir sample the delights of the "The Club Bongo International" hehe

I'm in the middle of organising my own as my best man (bless 'im) is a useless borderline alcoholic who couldn't find his arse with both hands at the best of times.

As said above, screw tradition and do what you want.

I've hired a lodge near Aberfeldy for the weekend and might do some paintball/off road karting and the like. In fact, screw that, i'm going to sit about and drink for 3 days.

I'm getting married in less than 6 months now, My best man has done sod all.made no attempt to ask me for contact details of people who i;d like to be there, no duscussion as to what may be a good thing to do.

He's useless, but I knew this when I chose him - it's one of his better traits! wink I'll just organise it myself, I'll get what I want then. smile

Why don't you email him and ask him to get on with arranging something? Maybe he just needs a kick up the bum?

I'd be pissed off if my Best Man was not organised .... (though I don't plan on ever getting married so ...) smile

I also think it's nice if the groom has *no* idea of where he's going (unless he wants to know). My bro had no idea until i told him - Which was when an S65 AMG turned up outside smile
