Baby hit by train
Discussion
Whoah! Interesting, for the manner of the reporting if nothing else.
Imagine if that had happened in the UK. The police would be 'investigating the incident', the HSE would be all over the station, things would be shut down for hours, an action group would be calling for safer designs of baby buggies / platforms / trains, there would be calls for clearer signage as to the dangers of trains, and goodness only knows what else.
In Australia, 'the police said that the mother had done nothing wrong', signage and supervision were deemed to be adequete, baby has a 'cut to the head' (not the infuriatingly vague "Minor Injuries"), and it is all tacitly ascribed to the fact that life is dangerous and people need to take care.
How very refreshing.
Oli.

The other unbelievable part is that looking at the video, if the train had been seconds later the mother would have been on the tracks.....possibly having picked up the baby/moved the pram.
Or even a second or two earlier and the train would have physically hit the pram

Every train drivers worst nightmare, easier to deal with when it's suicide, but when it's pure accident thats difficult.Never had one myself(31 year footplate career)but I've been to couple of inquests as rep for other drivers, one got quiet nasty as relatives would not accept verdict said driver should have stopped.1000 tons of diesel oil on down hill grade takes about 1.5 mile to stop.
Still at least I'm not the BT police who have to deal with whats left!

Jesus, she was actually lucky in a way that she did slip, otherwise she could quite easily have jumped on to the tracks to try and protect the baby or move it.
I wonder how long she had to wait till they realised the baby was actually ok.
As above though, if that was the UK all trains would be cancelled, all buggies recalled and all mothers confined to their homes till a thorough investigation was completed!
