Looking for a smart, well made/well fitted Coat

Following on from previous suit/shirts/shoes threads - I'm looking for a smart, well made/well fitted Coat which would be good for the weekend as well as with a suit, scuttling around the London City streets. Prefer a wool/felt type material to the oily or canvas type materials. Anybody have any suggestions?

More of a general tip:

If you are not buying a bespoke coat, then buy from a shop who will alter the item for the tailored fit. Having this done will make it look smarter than an expensive off the peg coat.

I bought one from hackett last year.
£500 but worth every penny.
Gets the occasional comment that it's a bit lock stock, but smart with a suit or casually.

Service second to none.

Or a dunhill if you have the readies- well made,long lasting, not fashionable enough to go out of fashion in 3 weeks.

I got a lovely coat from Flannels in Birmingham, really well fitted, and looks great if you're a bit skinny like me.

Flannels is the only place I've seen selling Holland Esquire though, but I'd imagine in London you'll be able to find somewhere!

I splurged a bit nearly 10 years ago on a Purple Label by Ralph Lauren Pea Coat, cost me about 700 quid, it still looks great today, and has been through nearly 10 winters. The construction and wool is fantastic, and will never go out of style. Well worth the cash IMHO.

Nick Holland is hardly exclusive (although decent-enough kit) but it's sold everywhere.

Burberry do some nice overcoats but expect to pay up to a grand for one.

Get one made to fit. £500 - two bags, depending on cloth (and how much cashmere you want). Dress2kill did mine, absolutely excellent.

If you get a coat to go over a suit, it will be miles too big when used with just jeans and a jumper. So ideally you need 2 coats.

I'd get my work coat from Zara. They fit surprisingly well, are decently made and a good price. Weekend coat, splash out and get something fitted that will last for the next 10 years. I got mine from Paul Smith and it fits like a glove...

It is if you live in Leicester! I'm not up on brand names, designers other than the obvious few - I just buy what I think looks nice so didn't know it was common... would be nice if they sold it round here, becuase they seem to make clothes to fit slim people which is perfect for me.

As preferred by the Krays, and with the added bonus of a pocket to hold your sawn-off.

Works well without a jacket underneath, but best to try it on in store rather than buy over the internet 9quite a tailored fit).

Look in a shop. There's plenty of Gentleman's Outfitters in the City/West End - try there.

Once you're there, see if they sell Loden overcoats (preferably made by Schneider).

Thanks for all your replys guys. I'm heading over to a place at lucnh to look into a semi-tailored option (as suggested).
