I suppose it would even out if you dislike the maths parts?

I just can't see any pattern in half of them, the only one I can remember is circles with 1 white ball and 1 red ball attached to each one at different places. Did you get that one, and if so how does it work?

I just can't see any pattern in half of them, the only one I can remember is circles with 1 white ball and 1 red ball attached to each one at different places. Did you get that one, and if so how does it work?

I like the maths ones too (I did product design engineering at Uni). I remember one with white and red balls but there were more than 2 balls on each, in each row there were 3 pictures 2 were opposite reflections and iirc (Im quite drunk now)the final one was a reflection of one of the 2 images in the final row but upside down this time because of (kinda hard to explain) patern of upsidedowness of the previous examples.

I probably got spanked on the classical knowledge, Ive never done much philosophy etc as I always did science based stuff at school and uni.

Oh well, worth a try. Maths and science is my thing, the image based ones just dont jump out at me. I don't like the knowledge based questions though as happening to know the order of the planets or similar is no judgement of intelligence its just luck whether you happen to have come across and retained that information at some point. I don't think questions like that should be in an IQ test.

yeah I agree about knowledge based questions in these things, there were a few where I simply didnt know which person dicovered something so couldnt answer that question properly. Do you not find patterns are somewhat mathematical? Im a bit odd anyway, I see numbers as different colours...

In a well rounded IQ test, you get stuff like that, not just picking up on shapes and patterns, there are different types of IQ, but it does mean an IQ test can only work efficiently in certain areas. European Politics and measurements in metric units means mainland europeans would do better, but Americans for example would do worse. If they started asking about the order of US presidents, Americans would do better, and europeans would lag behind.

It's all part of the mix that makes measuring IQ something pretty awkward to do scientifically.

You probably can express them mathematically but I find them hard to spot in image form. I try things like seeing if rows and columns add up to the same number or whether things are flipped and reversed but past that I get lost. Yes you are a bit odd, sure I read about it in new scientist once and a quick google suggests your one of the lucky 1 in 2000 people who has synaesthesia where your senses are mingled. Sounds cool!

My interpretation of IQ is a measurement of intelligence that doesn't require any major previous knowledge other than basic maths etc. So your not penalised for not knowing facts. Only graded on your ability to problem solve and calculate things in your head. Knowledge questions just skew the results in my opinion. The amount of correct answers for that part depends on random chance based on your area/level of education and your interests.
