Do you ring 0845, 0870 etc numbers from your mobile?

I'm curious to know what the general impression of these numbers are. Do you think 0844, 0845, 0870 and 0871 numbers are premium rate and will never ring them from your mobile? Do you ring freephone 0800 numbers from your mobile and do you prefer geographic e.g. 0121 numbers?

some 0800 numbers aren't free on mobiles, certainly not with O2 anyway. I use saynoto0870.com and get the alternative number

I generally only dial 01, 02's or other mobiles from my mobile.

I had to phone an 0845 number the other day, it cost £2 for a couple of minutes on a mobile. Local/cheap rate my arse!

I always ask for a normal phone number to phone them back or use saynoto0870 to see if they have a normal number to call them on.

It is pretty simple on most contracts I think, normal geographic numbers are included in the free minutes allocation, 08, 09 etc numbers aren't (including supposedly freephone 0800 numbers which most providers charge you for).

For this reason I never dial non geographic numbers from my mobile, I get the geographic equivalent from the saynoto0870 website and call that number instead.

Never. I'd rather sit in a phonebox and call than pay through the nose on my mobile.

Vodafone charges me 20ppm for 0800 numbers and 35ppm for 0871 numbers, which they also refuse to take out of my (not insignificant) monthly allowance.

I don't have a landline so this effectively makes them premium rate numbers to me and as such I avoid calling them when possible.

ETA: O2 used to charge, but take it out of my minutes which was a much fairer system.

As others have said I use saynoto0870.com to get the landline number.

Loads of people seam to be using the 0870 numbers at the moment, Even for things like insurance quotes, so I end up paying to give them the opportunity to quote for my business.

Nope, have geographical numbers included in my minutes, along with my magic numbers. So will only phone them from my mobile, anything else goes through the landline. I will use the SAYNOTO site and if I can't find a landline number, then i only phone if I really have to

No, 0870 numbers are usually 9 -6pm so I use the office phone. We pay a fixed rate no matter what calls we make so I do this with a clear conscience when on hold for half an hour.

Theres a fairly good app for the iphone which will do the job of saynoto0870. It will search for an alternative and call it or allow you to just call the 0870 if it cannot find one.

No - hence why I'm balancing my laptop on my lap, cradling the phone under my chin using the only phone we currently have in the house (rabbits ate through the other cables) whilst trying to get some sense out of a monkey.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. With the exception of a few, thats an overwhelming 'No' for 08 numbers off your mobiles.

I downloaded this app, but it seemed to me that you had to use the app to call the number and it would attempt to find an alternative number and if it couldn't, it would go ahead and call the 08 number anyway. I might've got it wrong, but I didn't want to risk it calling the 08 number.
