I see the advertising moguls have picked up on the scrappage scheme for your laptops, TVs, toys, mobiles......

Small print reads "a trained member of staff will evalutate your laptop/TV/toy UP TO £100+" so no doubt I would get 50p then 2 years free credit then 78%apr until I die.

fkers! Stop praying on stupid/less than desirable credit people!!!

Hehe. They don't have to take out stupid offers (whether they're buying a new over-priced laptop or taking out a 95% mortgage). They only have themselves to blame.

I don't want this to descent into poor people bashing thread.

If you have ever been really desperate for money you would take these offers just to tide you ever til the next time. How do they safeguard against theft?

I thought the advert in Currys was so misleading, it really annoyed me!

Yes, but some people are beyond help. It's not poor people bashing - some people are terminally stupid.

One of those gold ads that is on TV constantly is suggesting that you trade in your gold for a down payment on a car or plasma telly!! If you are that hard up that you need to pawn your belongings, probably best that you don't spend the cash getting yourself into more debt! rolleyes

Unforunately there are those who are at rock bottom, and hope/dream this is a lifeline. Sadly, they are mistaken.

Oh come-on a 95% mortgage isnt that bad, my friend earns 65k a year, his GF earns about 20k, they've recently been told they need a 60k deposit to by a 300k home (fwiw a 1 bed flat in wimbledon village).

With what they take home, best will in the world it'll take 6 years to save that whilst paying rent and normal bills.

Sure they could downsize to a bedsit, and live on cornflakes for 3 years, but who wants to do that!

If you're a first time buyer the deposits required by most banks now are beyond the reach of mere mortals, not like us "independently wealthy" PH lot.
We dont need mortgages at all really.

I must admit I thought that was a very odd way to advertise. I suppose it is to give these people the impossible dream. Trade in your £10 ring for the down payment towards that £34,000 car.

Bullst

your mate needs to prioritise. What car does he run? Does he really need that? Won't a fiesta do while he his saving?

How often does he eat out?

If that couple can only put £10K away per annum when earning 85 between them, they need to take a serious look at what they are pissing down the toilet

It also assumes that the couple have also spent every penny they've previously earned, which is unlikely.

Look somewhere cheaper, the North or an immigrant area.

Yep, look elsewhere, or don't whinge when you can't make the repayments. As grown ups, we're allowed to make choices. I would love a 5 bedroom house overlooking a lake but can't afford one without maybe a 95% mortgage...

Not that easy - his industry might not be widespread up north, which may be a reason for the cheaper houses

Read again numb nuts, that's for a 40% equity stake - so the flat's valued at 100K.

even those figures show a fairly luxurious lifestyle ...

£1500 PCM on a flat? Nice flat for one person, or even for a couple. A grand a month gets you something half-decent in most parts of London.

£500 on food and bills? That's not cheap.

And yet you are still spending £1500 on 'spending'. That's over £300 a week. That's a LOT. Not on food, not on bills. Just 'spending'.

And those figures leave £1500 a month. You could double that pretty easily by cutting back only slightly on the spending.

How much does this guy want his house? Life's tough, folks. If you want a nice house or flat then you need to make sacrifices to pay for it.
