I've been looking at buying a villa in Orlando at one of the golf resorts - 4 bed 3 bath, own pool jobbie. The problem is I've got as far as the agent having been out to look at it, took literally a hundred photo's, it's the right villa at a rather attractive price BUT it's all going far too easy for my liking.

What I need is for someone to recommed a solicitor, either in the UK or the US who can help me complete the deal.

The realtor I'm using is saying he can do everything and not knowing US law I want to make sure before pressing the button on it.

Before anyone asks - yes, the person who can point me in the right direction and enables me to buy this in a smooth manner can have 2 weeks FREE accommodation.

Thanks!!!!!

As the owner of a house in France, and paying a mortgage in Euros, I can tell you this hurts.

We bought at €1.45 to the pound, and factored in the exchange rate going to €1.25 - never did we epect €1.05!!!

In the US, a solicitor is not required. The Realtor and "Title Company" can get the deal done. On the house that we bought in 2007 (Northeast of Orlando), we didn't even have to go to the title company. They sent somebody round with the documents and we signed and then moved in.

If you want to know if you are getting a good deal or not, and want an estimate on the taxes, enter the details on this site: (I am assuming it is in Orange County)

Thanks for all the info everyone - it certainly got me focussed on what I need to clarify.

From a purchase point of view the villa is at a great price as it's a foreclosure and I've stayed at the resort before - I'll be buying it as a cash purchase so no need to worry about currency fluctuations in the short term. Pricewise it's at half it's 2006 price and I cannot see the market dropping too much more where it is.
