I had a brief and unillustrious career as a a Royal Navy officer. Failed initial flying training and got binned.

Anyone else taken the Queen's shilling?

I was accepted into the navy before i took my exams at school. At 16 i toddled off to HMS Raleigh to start my training, didn't like the look of it and came home on next mornings train.

So, 12 hours in the Navy for me!

Joined the army at 15, had a good time, apart from the stty times and left at 32 with two knackered knees.

Stumbled into IT by chance and since then made a bloody good wedge but it is sodding dull compared to what was a truly interesting time in the Signals.

Though I may also have mentioned the stty bits

10 years in the RAF, joined in '83. Loved most my my time in. Left so we didn't have to keep moving the kids around once they started school.

Funny that - at the age of 16 I toddled off to RNAS Yeovilton for a week's training as part of my school cadet training. Spent one night there, then got shipped back home on the first train because I lived the nearest.

Missed out on the old dunked in a blacked out upside down helicopter trick

I was a Leading Seaman in the cadets - was a bit weird getting saluted at all the time by grown men!
