I am self employed and normally work pretty much on my own or with clients who take a pretty hands off approach.

Now I have recently been instructed to do a piece of work that I cannot turn down for complex reasons but that means that I have to work in a very close team with another member of my profession for 6 weeks.

We are now on day 3 and I can say that I absolutely loath the man to the point where I can't bear to be near the wker without an uncontrollable urge to punch him in the face, even taking a phone call from him brings on the RAGE.

There is no way I can stop the work or get rid of him so I will just have to bear it and swallow my uncontrollable anger. Do any of you guys work with people you hate and what coping mechanisms do you have?

I could really do with some help as the blood pressure is going through the roof.

You've been working on your own too much. You just have to concentrate on the work and try and see the good qualities in him. Grit your teeth and think of the money as my father has said to me many times.

Can you explain what it is exactly that annoys you so much?

I'm quite fortunate in that all the people I work with (and hate) are incredibly stupid. Initially this caused angst because of their obvious lack of professionalism infront of clients and my increased work loads.

However, now I have learned the two golden truths of working with the intellectually challenged which I'll share with you. (1) Morons are easily manipulated (2) they make you look brilliant at your job.

I don't know what your issues with your colleague are but if stupidity is part of the problem then manipulation or "mind-rape", is the solution.

Remind yourself constantly it is only for 6 weeks. Have some kind of prison style countdown on your wall.

Use blunt sarcasm in effort to make points about what annoys you.

Also the whisky option sounds good. Or Rum, time flies when you're having Rum, according to a tattoo on here.

I dont agree.

I cant remember the exact quote but something along the following lines

" Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Beware of the idiot.

just think - in about 5 weeks time you can go out and celebrate that you've finished the job with a good old fashoined p*ss up and punch his face in later. smile

I never said argue with them.

There is a massive difference between arguing with somebody and convincing them to do your job for you.
