Clever or different gifts for xmas.

Any suggestions out of the norm!

If you can make anything then do that. I have been making bowls and birdfeeders as Christmas gifts for a few years now and it is brilliant. Cheap for me (about £1 per birdfeeder and a couple of hours work), completely unique, functional, aesthetically pleasing (well I think so anyway).

This year I will be making some more of these aswell as a couple of bits of art for a friend who has asked me to make her something similar to a couple of pieces I made for myself this summer.

What a nice idea, I really like them. I bet they are fun to make too.

cheers. Yes I really enjoy making them as I find woodturning very therapeutic. I like to pick up a piece of wood (particularly a log) and try and see how I can use the imperfections in it. I also like to get specific ideas from people about what designs they like and work to that "commission", although this year is the first that I have actually made any woodwork to sell. Previously every piece I have made has become a gift for someone.

Somewhat bizzarely we were given a sausage maker last year.

Used it loads. Cheap enough, different, practical, fun for kids and will never eat a bought sausage again

The concept dates back to the early 19th century but, yes, I guess the little ones on that website are too small to be of any practical use!
