I have just had a bollicking at work for a sarcastic e-mail I sent to everyone yesterday.
Our company is very, very eco-lentil eating-friendly and enter a competition every year to demonstrate what we are doing to save the world.
Our latest iniative is try and reduce our waste as a whole, to the point where they have nicely asked if we can bring in a packed lunch as opposed to going to the usual Tesco/Pret/Eat. So they are onto a loser straight away as most of the people I work with are lazy gets!
In doing this they hoped to reduce the amount of wrappers/packaging. And the only way to measure the success is to weigh the rubbish. This is seperated into Lanfill and recycling. But get this....2 people in the office actually sift through the rubbish to check we are recycling properly.
Everyone in the office has received an e-mail for the last 3 and a half weeks at 4.45 asking us to take our rubbish from our desk, and put it in the appropriate bin.
The average age in the office must be 30. Do we really need reminding to do this?
Maybe if they concentrated on getting some business in, they would have less time to ponce around measuring s

This thread is pointless without your sarcastic email, and the b
king it produced...
My e-mail was just raising the question if people aren't bright enough to remember to put rubbish in the bin, are they bright enough to be employed?
king it produced...My b
king was based around the negativitity it spells out.I really just want to tell them to take their head out their arses.
The company I work for is also trying to fly its "look at us and how we are saving the planet" flag.
We have recently had a agency in that is touring the UK telling everyone how wasteful everything is....we even had a driving simulator in reception the other week and a course on how to drive the most 'environmentally firendly' FFS.

The company I used to work for were anal about this, spot bin checks, counting reams of paper used in all the printers, different coloured bins all over the office. Spot checks to see if people had turned their computers/monitors off at night. We had an 'environmental manager' who's sole job was to oversee this.
Grrr.
Grrr.

At that point I would've started my car up and gave it a few revs just to be sure. shouting something like 'LOOK AT ALL THE CO2'We have recently had a agency in that is touring the UK telling everyone how wasteful everything is....we even had a driving simulator in reception the other week and a course on how to drive the most 'environmentally firendly' FFS.

The greenies response was along the lines of "you're not really into the spirit of green driving are you".

In my experience, the kind of people who think they are better then everyone else and send out sarcastic emails to the whole office to try and make a point, don't get very far career wise....
Didn't suggest I'm better than anyone else. It pisses me of that time is wasted sending out e-mails daily to remind people of something that should be second nature. I don't get reminders to wipe my arse after having a dump, nor do I need a reminder to put my cup in the dishwasher at the end of the day. Simple housekeeping! As for my career prospects, you don't need to worry to much about that me old flower

They can't tell you what to eat for lunch (I note the phrase 'nicely ask'), so you can ignore it. Plus, by buying sarnies outside, you're supporting local business.
At least they're so profitable they can afford to pay two people to go through the bins
- and what about the H&S on that eh?

That request fell on deaf ears, with a quiet rumble of 'food fascists' going around the office. At least they're so profitable they can afford to pay two people to go through the bins

I'm all for 'doing your bit' but you have to draw the line somewhere
Recycling is something everyone should be doing...seems your company is being responsible and you are being a bit of a tit.
Recycling is nothing to do with saving the world or climate change per se...it's about not filling holes in the ground with rubbish which could otherwise be reused.
It's just Common sense?
