"I Eat Rubbish"

If you work near the millenium bridge, you'll have noticed that floating platform that collects the river's stray bottles etc. It has a sign on the side proclaiming "I Eat Rubbish".

Being a geek, I want to know how it works. But I can't find anything online as to how.

Can anyone enlighten me?

As far as I know, it's nothing terribly complex. It's just a floating cage which is open on one side; rubbish floats in, and on average doesn't float out again.

Seems to work well though, if you look at the amount of stuff it traps.

Oh, I thought this was going to be a thread about the kid I went to school with 'Dustpan Dire'...

...he could often be found eating orange peel out of the bins.
