Is there lots and lots of snorting like noises?
Few months ago we kept getting woken by a strange noise from the garden. I looked out the bedroom window to see 3 hedgehogs, 1 of them making a quick exit. Apparently the noise is the female showing her disgust at the male trying it on!

The garden here (3 acres or so) is overrun with slugs and has lots of hedgehog habitat. Yet I haven't seen a single one...
