Went to the vets yesterday to collect for tablets for my dog. I noticed the CCTV moniotor was missing. Turns out they had a break in and the burglars smahed up the PC's and the CCTV, obviously thinking the images were in a hard drive.
Anyway, they took all the steroids, pain killers, anti-inflammatories, anti-biotics in doggie doses and all the dog leads, collars and flea treatments (but didn't bother with other drugs or the cat stuff). The vets seem to see this as the order book of dog fighters who obviously can't take injured dogs to the local vet and self medicate during training and after a fight and according to our local RSPCC dog fighting has increased massively in the past 2 or 3 years.
I find it completely abhorrent and quite depressing that these t
ts can get pleasure, entertainment or money from watching animals try to kill each other. Never mind about fines they want hanging by their b
ks when caught.Mini rant over.

Animal fighting is just a way of displaying how degenerate you are.
And has been going on for centuries: Bear baiting, cock fighting, monkey tennis and giraffe wrestling to name but a few.It is, sadly, one of those things that entertain a certain section of "society".

As is a human "fighting" an animal. Sadly, it's not like the dogs have a choice in the matter.
But what is the solution? Mandatory 10 years jail for convictions? Castration of the Dog "owner"?

Abhorrent practice.
As is the shooting and hunting which so many on here seem fond of.
Any true field sports enthusiast has the ultimate respect for (and understanding of) the quarry, and wants to get the job done with the minimum of suffering. I personally don't enjoy the 'killing', just the 'eating'.As is the shooting and hunting which so many on here seem fond of.

No. I won't go there.
its a horrible passtime....
Unfortunatly its on the rise. its very popular among asian comunitys and a lot of it goes on in birmingham. i know certain streets in handsworth have fighting dogs in nearly every back garden. the police have had some good results in catching some but its only the tip of the iceberg.

I could understand if someone wanted to take on an animal of similar size, hand to hand - that is still pretty messed up, but it is a fair fight - but sneaking up on a rabbit, shooting it and then claiming that you have respect for your dangerous foe is pure bulls

t.Personally I couldnt pull the trigger myself but I love meat and know where it comes from and how it gets on my plate and I dont really see a problem with someone hunting legally and dispatching the animal in the fastest possible way.

As you noticed I said "fair" - I did not say humane, I also stated that a hand to hand(claw?) fight would be messed up - ie. while still being barbaric, I would find it easier to have respect for the hunter and to see the element of "sport" in a fair fight.
If you don't think a fight on equal terms is fair, due to the fear and the potential prolonged nature of combat, I suggest you take up boxing and perhaps bring a claw hammer into the ring with you, it will allow you to subdue your opponent in a quick manner, which in your eyes is the ideal way to be fair.
Note that the previous poster was talking about field sports, the important word being sports - I am not concerned with someone who is hungry and wants to eat something, I just don't see the sport in shooting something that poses no risk to the opponent, and sneaking up on it.
People who consider killing animals to be a sport should do it correctly, ie. in a pit, armed with a knife, against something that has an equal chance of winning.
What would be even more fair - not killing the animal for sport, and the people who need to compensate for their own macho insecurities, get their kicks elsewhere.

So should a dog not kill a rabbit? That's hardly fair. Should the dog not enjoy it? Presumably they do at least get some sense of satisfaction from it.What would be even more fair - not killing the animal for sport, and the people who need to compensate for their own macho insecurities, get their kicks elsewhere.
We are ourselves part of an ecosystem and our hunting animals is as natural and normal as a dog killing a rabbit. If anything, it's the mass scale mechanised slaughter of animals for food that is more unseemly IMO, it's just further out of view.
I did some work with the police a few years ago on badgers and baiters don't even allow it to be a fair fight, they often injure the badger to 'even up' the odds.
Bottom line is that the criminally minded will migrate to any area where there is money to be made and where the detection and sentences are unlikley. Now that their drugs markets are more tricky, burglary and car crime is tougher and they are not all bright enough to try E-fraud, animal and other wildlife crime is the easy option because they are generally lazy as well as cruel b

No, it should not. I think we ought to differentiate between those of a small penis nature who simply want to kill animals for "sport" and the feeling of taking life which makes them think they are powerful and those who kill to eat the animal and who seek to ensure the kill is quick (which is of course fine).
