presentation topic ideas?

credit crunch seems obvious, British debt? student loans and student debt?Have seen people crash and burn on this exercise, so please take one very serious bit of advice:
Don't do it on anything contentious, or where the audience may not share your view.
Do a presentation about a hobby or something similar which you know plenty about but which you can't get into an argument about.

Or, more importantly - as above - go with a subject you know full well and can answer questions on at the end.

One that sticks in my mind that went very well was about the Thame Fair - its origins etc etc. This worked as we were in Thame and the Thame Fair was on, and very few people on the course knew the area so it was interesting and was quite wittily presented, but maybe there some similar local (or even national) event that could be spoken about?
k anything up. I recall, in my teens, attending a selection centre and this exercise being part of the process. We had all been interviewed once before this happened, as well as having sat CVs.
We were each given a sheet with three topics on it; we had ten minutes to choose one and then give a 5 minute talk, followed by questions.
You just don;t reckon on each sheet handed out being tailored to each candidate: each sheet had two common topics and then one which reflected a hobby (in my case, sea fishing) which they had picked up from CV/interview.
The other two topics covered our nuclear detterent and, IIRC, conscription.
Through luck rather than judgement, I picked the fishing topic.
The first of the other four candidates chose the nuclear deterrent topic; I was kicking myself. He made such a clear case, I just knew that I'd cocked up coming across professionally by choosing 'my silly hobby'.
Got to the questions stage and he got torn to pieces.
So did the next guy.
Mine went fine.
The last two were torn to bits.

Basically I have to do a presentation for my dissertation, but the content of the presentation is not assessed, my presentation abilities are. It is only circa 6min long, and only an OHP is available.
