Is there a gay accent?

Listening to an airline 'cabin attendant' on the TV I found myself thinking 'yes, he sounds gay'. This seems like ludicrous prejudice, but there really seems to be a particular way of speaking which many gays have but which heterosexuals never seem to. Am I imagining things?

Do gays use it to recognise each other perhaps?

I think there is definitely a tendency for gay men to have a certain manner, but of course it is impossible to stereotype. For example, the first friend of dorothy that I personally know that springs to mind, is a rugby playing beer drinking bear of a man, with none of the stereotypical mannerisms.

I am rubbish at sensing these things, with a clearly broken "gaydar". Can gay women be easily identified with those with gaydar too? I've no idea...
